    Default FCE 4 and HV40

    Hi,

I would like to purchase a Canon HV40 (PAL) camcorder.
    I own a 24" iMac 2.4 gHz with 4gB of RAM.
I planned to get FCE 4.

Do you know if there are some restrictions with this configuration ?
for instance some camcorder properties I could not use with FCE 4

    Thanks

    Philippe

im not sure if pal versions shoot 24p or some other version of that - but FCE doesnt edit 24p

otherwise as far as i know youre good to go.

You'll have to capture in 50i. FCE doesn't do HDV progressive.

I like FCE a lot. If you don't need Motion or Color, it is about the only editor you'll ever need.

In regards to the iMac: I use the same system at work with FCS2... troublefree.
In any case, get an external harddrive... LACIe Quadra D2 are cool... 150 bucks for 1TB. We have a bunch of them.

    Thanks for your quick answers.
    I own a 1T B external FW 800 disk drive.

@cgbier : Considering your remark about HDV progressive.
I read on this forum an old thread saying we can record in 25p and import footage in 1080i50 in FCE 4 but the footage still keep in 25p mode ? Is this correct ?

Sorry I think I'm not very clear.

Just deinterlace it on export, and you have your 25p back.

    thanks cgbier.

Finally I have ordered an Hv40.
I still purchase FCE 4, a fw 400 (i-link) cable, a lot of K7, and start to play with...

And now I'm going to find a thread about which K7 used on HV40...

There plenty of tapes around. Don't buy them super duper "HD optimized" tapes for 20€. The simple Panasonic for two fifty a piece do the trick perfectly.
