    Default Good camera for tracking

Hi, i want to ask u guys about a good camera to do motion tracking / matchmoving.

I bought a HV30 a year ago, because i wanted to do motion track, but then i realized that hv30 is NOT a good camera for track, because of the cmos / rolling shutter, i tryied myself over and over and i couldnt get perfect results

So this time i want to analize before buy.

Thanks for reading, btw, my bucket is around 1.500 dolars.

If rolling shutter is an issue here, you'll need one with CCD instead of CMOS sensor. You'd be able to get a HD one, but for ~3000$.

I've heard good things about the AVCHD Cameras being used for good motion tracking... I believe they were used in a recent Live motion film...

Anyway you don't suffer from rolling shutter unless you do fast pans/moves...which usually is not good for motion tracking?
What exactly are you trying to do, just curious.

You either keep the object in the same position on the video, or you pan very slow.
    Shoot 50/60i.
    Use a good de-interlacer.

HV30, according to camcorerinfo, is one of the best for motion.
I hope this new knowledge may help me to improve

Rolling shutter affects all motion, no matter how small. Just because your eye doesn't notice it doesn't mean it's not there. Once you start doing motion tracking, especially of the 3D variety, all hell breaks loose.

we have a great HD camera, mainly because of its price (at the time) but i was trying to do some simple tracking in PFTrack for almost a year and i couldnt get perfect results, it will take quite abit of work to get it right.

Dayum! Just when I went and bought Syntheyes!

So, is tracking virtually impossible with CMOS footage, or just hellishing difficult?

It's certainly not impossible, I've seen decent results before. I should include the disclaimer that I've never attempted 3D tracking before with any camera, I am simply going off of what I've seen and read on the internet. Google is your friend: http://www.google.com/search?q=synth...ed=0CDoQqwQwAw *

*There is a good chance that these results are skewed towards successful attempts, as people are less likely to go through the trouble of uploading failures.

I use my HV40 for Motion Tracking in conjunction with Maya Live without a problem at all. I've even done it for hand held shots too. What is the problem you're experiencing? My Match Moves are rock solid.

If you have the time, i'd like to see what you did...and if you really have some time to spend in it, maybe a before & after?

What type of shot are you trying to pull off?
