Default How to Encode to Mpeg-2 for DVD Output

So I'm using Mpeg Streamclip to convert my HD footage from FCE 3.5 so I can go straight to DVD without encoding. But Mpeg Streamclip wont encode to mpeg-2 because the original file has to be mpeg-1 or mpeg-2. Now when I import from my HV20 to FCE, it automatically converts it Apple Intermediate Codec. Is there a way to import the footage without FCE converting the footage to AIC? Thanks.

HD will always be imported as AIC into FCE.
If you want to use your footage to a DVD you can export from FCE using Export -> Quictime movie, or Export -> Quictime conversion and choose format DV-stream and under options choose either Pal or NTSC (depending on how you shot your footage). The file created by this export you can simply drag into iDvD and burn yor DvD. If you have chaptermarkers added use the first export option I mentioned and make sure you check the option to include chaptermarkers. iDvD will automatically creacte chapters for your DvD.
