Default I am Moving to Iceland

    Hey all,
I just wanted to give everyone here an update on my new project. I am going to be moving from Virginia USA to Reykjavik Iceland in August. I will be filming a documentary of my travels every step of the way. As some of you may know, Iceland's economy completely failed in 2008 and they are in recovery mode. My idea for the main plot of my documentary is the differences and similarities from there economy and ours, basicly what would happen if our economy were to do the exact same thing, what would we do and what are they doing about it? The subplot of course is the basic idea of moving from one country to another with almost no contacts on the other side. How will it pan out? I have no idea, but I am extremely excited!

I plan on living there for 6 months... but honestly, I might not return I wanted to get everyone's input on anything at all. Good idea, bad idea? anything I should add to the film itself? Of course Iceland is beautiful. So I am going to add the natural differences between here and there. Tons of footage of the land itself and their way of life.

Not sure if anyone really cares. But if I don't post as much, its because I am completely involved with the planning of my trip and the production of the film.

Thanks in advance for the responses!

Is there internet over there? Can you make a blog? Do you have the film's name in mind?

The whole city of Reykjavik is pretty much a wireless hotspot! So I should have internet at all times.

I started a blog a few days ago you all can read it Here

I update it at least once a day, so check back if you are at all interested. As of now its not much. Just ramblings about my reasoning for going. But obviously it will get better

I haven't really thought of a name yet. Any Ideas?

Thanks for the video footage Medic! I hadn't seen that one before!

I expect to see an exposition on the existence of the stereotypical Iselandic woman. Does she exist? Let's see some proof.

Perhaps you should look into Icelandic Vodka as well:

You might be able to kill two birds with one stone, and shoot some footage of Icelandic girls drinking Icelandic Vodka.

    It's just a thought.

According to what I have read. For every 1 male in Iceland there are 3 females. I really like the sound of that No doubt I shall get a few of them onto the documentary. I might even do some interviews. Even though this project doesn't really call for any.

Any Ideas on a name for the doc? Now that I'm thinking about it I should really come up with at least a working title.

Im not dissuading you from going to Iceland, But if you want to document a failed economy, you can do it right here. I predict that within one year. this country will be in a major depression. And I mean Major. I just cant figure out how they plan to curb the hyperinflation they created when they printed worthless money. I mean there's nothing backing it up , except good faith. And we all know how long good faith among politicians lasts. Well, either way, have a good safe trip, and we look foreward to seeing your doc. good luck my friend.
    I'm feeling frisky!

No, you shouldn't.... your blog is sufficient. I have no F-in clue what the blog title means, cause I'm not ashamed to be English speaking American, bu I think it's pretty cool name whatever the F it means it's def. unusual.

Honestly, I don't really want to document a failed economy, I really just want to go to Iceland But trust me. I agree with you. So If I go for say 6 months. Thats enough time for the economy here to do the same thing as what happened there. Making my documentary very relevent right? It started out as just wanting to film the differences betweent the two countries and the events leading up to the initial trip, Finally going somewhere other than the D.C. area. Not just on vacation. But I would love to film this and make it happen. Regardless of subject matter.

And Blond my blog title means 'New Home'.

I was in Iceland last August. The country was, of course, beautiful.. Reykjavik is a very nice city, people are friendly, and there is a big young, creative, partying and music making scene over there.
Back then, I didn't really notice the effects of the crisis.. I found the lifestyle of most of the people still quite luxuous and capitalistic. For example: one of the main activitities during the weekend was the Runtur: people driving around in suv's and sportcars through the center of reykjavik. A sort of traffic jam people voluntarily joined. Bizarre.

Here is the video I made by the way:

Hmm... No idea why it won't embed.. [ame="http://vimeo.com/6937367"]Iceland on Vimeo[/ame]

    Awesome video!

    Thanks for the input.

I imagine it will be much like it is here. People don't really see much of the effects of the recession other than places closing and such. But its all people talk about.

I imagine over there you hear the words Icesave and kreppa a lot.

There are more important things in life than "the economy". Most Europeans I know think that way.

Icelanders want to maintain a sense of Isolation, just like they always have. So when people offer to help pay off their debts, they realize that would mean them paying whomever back for a long time. They want to solve the problem on their own.

    And Lawrence,
In the winter its on average, a bit warmer than New York City's winter, and in the summer its in the mid 60's or mid 50's
