Default Sony Vegas 9.0c crashes on render

Well, doesn't this just beat all?

After my recent upgrade to XP 64-bit, I decided to install Vegas 9.0c which supports it. It actually seems to run better than previously. But when I go to render out footage, it instantly gives me the dreadful error box "Vegas Pro has stopped working".

Here is the entire error message:

    Problem Description
    Application Name: Vegas Pro
    Application Version: Version 9.0c (Build 895) 64-bit
    Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)

    Fault Address: 0x000000007863E630
    Fault Offset: 0x000000000001E630

    Fault Process Details
    Process Path: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 9.0\vegas90.exe
    Process Version: Version 9.0c (Build 895) 64-bit
    Process Description: Vegas Pro

I at least figured out that the audio has something to do with it. I unchecked the audio render for two different video format exports. It ran fine. But as soon as the audio is checked.....CRASH.

Okay. I notice on the timeline that the audio track is blank. If I try to scrub the line I get an instant crash in that same dll file. If I add video files that contain a different audio format, they show up fine.

It seems to have something to do with working with the native audio that the HV40 is putting out. I presume its MPEG audio wrapped in a wav file or something. Whatever it is, Vegas doesn't recognize it. Yet, will gladly throw it on the timeline.

I've also got a thread in here about Vegas pro 9c crashing on render.

I notice we seem to have a common element in our error logs:
    MSVCR90.dll

I've been unable to drum up much info on this pesky dll and don't know enough about computers to even understand the entire string of the error report. And I cannot find this dll anywhere within the Vegas folders or Windows system 32, only in Windows\winsxs folders.

But it is interesting that all of my errors are caused by the "faulting module MSVCR90.dll"

And your error report is better because I get no message from Vegas telling me what happened, I just get Windows Vista telling me Vegas stopped working and I have to go into error logs looking for why.

I am not rendering anything with audio when mine crashes, so maybe our problems are not related.

My vegas pro 9 64bit crashes as soon as i hit render as. I don't even get to choose what format i would like to render to. As soon as I hit render it crashes.
I am running Vista x64. My solution has been to use the 32bit version :-(

My computer is running a intel dualcore2 processor. I don't know why a amd64 component crashes my computer, since i don't have a amd processor: "amd64_microsoft.vc90.cr"

"amd64_microsoft.vc90.cr" indicates you are using a 64-bit plugin to decode/encode your video (I assume wmv?), it has nothing to do with AMD processor.......

I'm currently running Vegas 9.0c 64-bit undr Vista 64. I can get it to encode to most codecs. Some do crash, such as when I try to render via ffdshow VFW codecs. I can get around that by Frameserving into Virtualdub and encode there.

If anyone is interested, I've found the UTcodec (free lossless codec) to work very well under Vegas 9c 64-bit. It's fully multi-threaded and comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit flavors. I can encode in near realtime on my Quad-core and the file size is similar to Cineform, but UTcodec is true lossless.
There is no such thing as "Idiot-Proof".........a good Idiot will get around that every time.

I never really found a solution so I switched over to 32-bit Vegas since it runs just as fast in XP 64 in my case.
