    Default Modifying RODE Videomic

So, I just got a RODE Videomic, it's amazing, but unfortunately, it doesn't fit a mini-hotshoe mount. I honestly think it's kind of dumb that RODE doesn't just make the hotshoe a oblong rectangle shape, so it can be fit in either type of shoe mount just by rotating it.
My idea would be to do just that, by shaving down the little square chip on the bottom in one direction to make it still normal-hotshoe sized in one dimension, but small enough to slide into a mini-hotshoe in the other.
Are there any blaring problems with this? I know it might void my warranty, but it will let me attach the mic to my camera on-the-cheap, and it doesn't prevent me from using it as a boom (which is what I plan on doing most of the time).
I know this isn't the best way, but if there's a zero-cost, non-destructive method that I'm missing, I'd like to know before I void my warranty.

    Thanks in advance.

Depending on what it's gonna be mounted, check this & this.
On which camcorder model you're gonna mount the Videomic?
Edit: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Adorama-Advanced-Multipoint-Universal-Adapter/dp/B001AI210S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1264183967&sr =1-1"]This[/ame] might be exactly what you're looking for.
Otherwise, just trim the base to fit the mini-shoe...

Thanks for responding so fast. I like the adjustable-coldshoe suggestion. Unfortunately, I've seen all of these before. The adapters were the first things I looked at, but I just don't think a small, machined chunk of metal is worth >$30. I'll keep looking around.

Update! I'm pretty excited right now, this is the first time I've gotten the mic to mount to my camera. I was afraid to damage the mount built-in to the mic, so I made an adapter out of a cheap, plastic ruler that happened to be sitting next to me. It was a bout 5 minutes worth of dremel work, so it's not pretty, but it definitely works. The weight of the Videomic keeps the plastic adapter pretty solidly in-place. My next step will be to make the camcorder-end have two layers, and a screw to tighten it (and be made of metal). Here's some pictures of it:

I'd suggest you to do the same thing, but made of aluminium instead...or any piece of metal that is solid enough. Just to be sure the mic won't drop due to the plastic adapter to broke!
Glad you've been able to do it for free!

Luckily for me, I'm in the FIRST Robotics Competition. After Tuesday, I'll have a lot of aluminum to spare. Thanks for your support, I wonder if I could get a little business out of these things, they're planar, so I could machine and sell them for much less than those adapter-blocks on Amazon. That's a little to far ahead, though. I'm going to see what I can do in the way of aluminum before I get too excited. Did you know that sticking a piece of metal into the hotshoe will turn the camera on? Weird.
