Gunstock vs diy steadicam 4 handheld

Eugenia for example uses a gunstock support for her hv20 as does the woman that does che che tv. I ordered one from B and H thru a link on Eugenias blog, but wonder what the difference/benefits are to using the gunstock vs a steadicam for hand held shots
