Call me a fanboy (I'm not), but I am just DYING to get my hands on one to try it out, and I'm sure there's a bunch of other guys like that as well. I mean, just look at the Mac Rumors forum's iPad Discussion sub forum. People are posting a bunch of threads there everyday talking about... nothing.

I CRAVE more information on the thing!

I think I'm gonna go post in the "A Thread For Happy People" thread.

Default iPad Now Available for Pre-Order

I guess we're close to finding out if the iPad is going to sell.

Starting today, you can pre-order your iPad from the Apple Online Store and have it delivered free to your door. Or buy it at your favorite Apple Retail Store starting April 3.

If the reports of 20,000 pre-orders an hour are anywhere close to accurate, I'd say the sales will be sufficient.

In the first six hours 20000 were reserved for in-store pickup and tens of thousands were pre-ordered. It's from MacRumors.

This is going to be INSANE. I can't freakin' wait for the iPad to be released in China.

And... MORE PICTURES! The Apple Case changed; it looks a lot better now. I can't wait for third-party accessories like docks (hopefully with IR ports) and more cases.

    Oh WOW!
So the darn thing is selling!
It will be interesting to back over this thread and review some of the comments form the people who were skeptical about the prospects of this product.

I might even post some of the good ones

Haha, just like the original iPod thread on MacRumors when the iPod was first released. "So stupid!". XD

    We'll see, Seo.
But I'm really looking forward to hanging out some of the bold predictions posted on this thread.

Yeah. If you really want to hear some bold predictions, check out the iPad Possibilities Podcast. There a guy talks about the possibilities of the iPad and how he'll be using it as his sole computer. The apps are what will really make the iPad powerful IMO.

I love how it supports RAW photos. That really opens up the possibility of simple RAW processing apps and photo editing on the go. Aperture/Lightroom Lite anyone?

Hmm, apparently the estimates have been even higher. 51k in the first 2 hours.

The main reason for the netbook's popularity is that its less expensive than a new NEW laptop. People are going by price.

We shall see. Would you seriously take this vs a macbook pro? The $500 model is wifi only and 16gb. Models with 3g and more space are squarely in the laptop category.

consumers don't really *need* tablets. Like I said, novelty wears off when you use it.

Apple really blew it on this one. Tablets haven't been popular even though they've been around for years, but when Apple makes a product they usually go all the way and could have millions buying something really revolutionary. And we get... a big iPod touch with the webcam facing the wrong way and no storage space.

Right now its new. Its also a fashion statement, they gave some to celebrities. People who are preordering it want the latest toys and have lots of disposable income.

The newton/messagepad sold over 100k first year too, at a time when gadgets weren't this mainstream.

Somebody is going to make a better android/linux tablet and apple will need an iPad to clean up the blood.

Or we'll be wrong and the computer semi-literate will buy it, after all its geared towards them. A device designed for paid consumption.

I'm not wrong yet. If it sells like the ipod then I will be wrong.

Either way competition will create better, cheaper "pads".

I might get one of these to use for surfing so I don't have to worry about getting viruses on my PC laptop, and also so I can sit on couch to watch Tv and surf. I steal my neighbor's wifi anyways, I think wifi is all anybody needs. Every hotel, restaurant, business, etc.. has wifi, sh*T even fast food all has wifi now. SH*T I steal my neighbor's wifi anyways, I don't need 3G ever.

    3G is total SH*T, period.

BUT, there are some downsides to this apple Bull. I know apple supports java but sh*t this thing with not allowing multiple open windows kills a lot of popular chat sites that I like to use while I surf simultaneously.

There are many social sites I visit where this apple Bull won't work because you open a new window it kills whatever you were running.

Yeah, hopefully multitasking will be included in OS4. At least it's not a hardware limitation.

nxb is absolutely correct. You can't tell anything EITHER WAY with these early numbers. They're always high due to the fanboys and and cutting edge technology seekers. The question will be answered as sales level off a little.

Pre sales of the PS3 for example were quite high, then leveled off pretty early... too early for Sony. So much so that they ended up having to build a cheaper PS3 version.

Sure he's right, it just wasn't as a big a flop as he'd hoped for... he was hoping for a Zune-class flop.

And you weren't wrong either, were you BS when you wrote:

    Right, Seo.
It's just a question of how wrong these marketing geniuses were.
