    Default SoftWare Rant!!!

Maybe it's just me, but I'm getting fed up with the "latest and Greatest" s/w versions. I've been a photoshop power user since version 5. In my opinion, the last good version was Photoshop 7. I remember opening up 100 or more 10 mp images at once with ease. Just the other day I managed to crash CS3 by scrolling through fonts too quickly. Are you kidding me? The only reason I keep upgrading is for Camera Raw support.

It's no wonder I find myself using Paint.Net more often than Photoshop. It simply works and has infinitely more filters available (free), unfortunately it doesn't support 16-bit dept Raw images yet......bummer. Seems more and more s/w designers are more interested in useless blot than function these days. Pitty.........
There is no such thing as "Idiot-Proof".........a good Idiot will get around that every time.

Thats funny because I did exactly the same thing a few weeks ago From what I can tell crashing is considered normal now . . PC or Mac!

For what its worth I feel your pain

Heh, lucky me. Photoshop hasn't crashed from all my daily use since I got CS4. Being on a Mac helps, probably.

It's like the OS they keep "designing"...they keep getting bigger and bigger, and bloatier and bloatier.

Adobe PDF Reader is something like 40MB...to display a PDF? Huh?
I had a computer with a 40 MB hard drive not THAT many years ago.

Unfortunately other companies went the same way...Quicktime was once a small, and great program. In the meantime it's also bloaty. the list is endless....

And with bloat the likelihood of a crash seems to increase.

For me the last good Photoshop version was CS2, which was a minimal improvement over CS1. I still run CS2 on my main machine. I have CS4 on my laptop and it performs pretty crappy, the more UI effects and frills they add, the more it runs like crap. Mal is right, it's the bloat that's crashing/slowing things.

Being on a Mac makes no difference, I used Macs all day at my last job and we used to keep tallies on how many times Flash CS3 crashed.

I find CS4 to be solid, but perhaps I am lucky - running CS4 on Macbook Pro 17" - and I use Bridge and Camera RAW for most tasks - Photoshop I find useful for batch processing.

Yes, software rushed to market, constant updates to fix conflicts and yet so often very difficult to learn with hopeless help functions. Considering the size of the programs surely they could chuck in free dvd tutorials, ah no, that'll cost extra.

tried CS4... it was a "Crashmaster 5000" .... pulled the plug after 2 days... went back to my stable version of CS3. I wanted to try the content aware scaling... oh well
