    Default other materials

those of you working on diy supports might want to look at HDPE and phenolic plastic. HDPE is what many of those white cutting boards are made of. It has the same workability as wood but is more dimensionally stable and will not split easily. Phenolic is basically layers of fabric laminated with resin. It also machines well and is stiffer then HDPE but is a bit more expensive. both of these materials are more easily worked with home shop tools then aluminum. You will still have to find metal rods though.

Might be worth buying them in the UK, 15mm seems to be a pretty standard size.

    $15 a meter here.

The only problem with that may be the shipping. Care to share a link or two on where to get them?

If someone who has done one successfully before and wants to do a real step by step tutorial with down to the detail instructions i might consider doing it.

    OK, here you go:
Step 1: Pick up your credit card.
Step 2: Order the rod support system.
Step 3: Pick up the rod support system.
    Step 4: Remove from box.

I still think you will be better off buying them.

    Thanks in advance
I actually just clicked your link. You can find this exact rod setup on ebay (NEW) for about $110 shipped. Just search "camera rod support"

This guy has various sizes. I don't think he lists american shipping prices, but message him and he will probably help you out. He also cuts the rod to custom lengths. So you could order the longer rod and get him to trim it down to equal lengths.

Post Abs plastic : alternative option

If someone don't have acces to ABS plastic or simillar material, here's an interesting option.
The idea is genius, low-cost and seems to be very reliable.
    Good job Rinol

from the picture it seems like they link together. so they should be long enough. The more I look at the options. The more I see that making one seems like the best idea. I just need to figure out the camera mount and quick release.

This might solve your problem and it's a good investment.
Otherwise, take a look at my album, i'm using a Beachtek first for the XLR-to-3.5 plug & to hold the camcorder.

Thats perfect! I really need a solid Tutorial if i am going to do this. It seems simple enough. But i want it to compare to something you can buy. I want the camera base be adjustable height wise and be able to move along the rails.

It's already movable along the rails, unscrew & adjust it & tighten it!
Use ABS spacer & longer bolt to adjust the height.

That quick release needs to be mounted to something that moves along the rails though. That i guess would be made from the ABS or hockey puck, correct?

    Post Low-Cost idea

Just tought of that while preparing supper...if you have a chopper board in plastic.
If it's thick&hard enough, you can easily cut the parts you need in it...or one in wood...just a low-cost idea!
