A lot cheaper in terms of price.
Mine, in materials, cost me around 25$, rods and the camcorder mounting plate included.
And it's solid enough, i'm not scared to put a 1200$ camcorder on it!!

But what about attaching it to a tripod?

I've made another part with the same material, with the angles of my old tripod's head quick release (don't have the original one), then just screw it to the mounting plate.
No need to unassemble the whole thing each time : just detach it off the tripod home made quick release!
In order you got the home made tripod's quick release, the mounting plate and (optional) XLR adapter.
Or, just drill a hole in the plate to screw directly in.
    This thread, post #43.

I see. so you just made the plastic piece the same shape and size as the quick release for your tripod. and you trust that with your camera on there? I would be afraid. But then again I didn't build it. Any chance you could make a tutorial on this with a parts list and post it up?

Sorry to HiJack, I did purchase the ones that were mentioned from ebay, and they work well. The rods are a little short for my taste, but I can always find replacements.

My problem is, as a newbie, what would I use to hold up my twoneil 35mm adapter? the mattebox holder cant double up as an adapter supporter because it wont reach. But what would I use to hold up something like the twoneil w/ HD Achromat?

    Thanks

Calculate the space you need between the holder and your lens...
then make a spacer (ABS plastic / plexiglass / hardwood...) and screw it to the holder...
still adjustable and it should works

lol DUH to me. Thanks, I guess i oversaw the obvious route and was too focused on looking for a more complex answer.

then a part 2 question, where would I find another adjustable mattebox holder? I see a few things on here with a hockeypuck, should I use that? and how would I do so?

    Thanks

    1- Sorry about that!!
2- You'd be better to make one yourself...my opinion. I doubt there will be anything that fits your setup perfectly and be affordable at the same time.
3- The hockey puck is an option for sure! cheap and can be found almost anywhere!
