    Default YOUR FAVorite pocket camera?

My canon powershot SD850 is dying. I m looking at purchasing another still/video small pocket camera. Maybe the powershot SX200?? Its got a bigger lens and does shoot HD.
Not alot of time to research at the moment
Thought it would be best to ask the advice of the smarties on this forum...
Though i am cringing at the thought of Cyclewriters club coming down on me for this question ?!!

I've seen good results from a Xacti 2000HD. It can even be used in an adapter, like the SGBlade system a member on here recently brought. Looks nice in SD, and should be okay too in HD.

I just bought a Powershot SD780. It's literally a pocket camera, basically being a half-inch thick credit card. It doesn't take the best pictures I've ever seen, but for what it is it's great. It shoots half-decent HD video too.

Samsung makes a full hd pocket cam. I just bought my wife one for her b-day, Im going to review it when I have a minute, but it's a decent little cam from what I have seen. It was only 150.00
    I'm feeling frisky!

Hmmm this is my thrid time trying to write a post on the forum. When i send i just get a white page?

Thanks for you relies. I really prefer to do alot of research before i buy anything and life is way to busy at the moment to give me that chance so i really appreciate your imput.
I have done what reading i could comparing the models you suggested to the Canon PS sx200. I was attracted to the 200s larger lens which goes quite wide and has a12 x optical zoom . Its also got hd movie mode , manual settings, and a big lcd monitor. The cons are that you cant use zoom while shooting. Its kinda big and heavier than the other small cameras and its is a bit slow to take successive pictures.

Im intrigued by your camera Cornreaper. Is the audio at all usable? Are you happy with the quality in its movie mode? Its quite impressive for its tiny size. I may go for that one instead.... a total switch which can only happen when there is not enough time to research well before i fly!

Antman i look forward to your review. Hope your wife enjoys her gift!

Cornreaper, does the camera you have have any manual controls?

Not so much....it's a true point-and-shooter. There is a little tweakability in Program mode, but Auto mode does a pretty good job actually. Basically, we needed a new pocket camera for everyday stuff, and it fit the bill nicely. It's tiny, it's pretty, it's easy to use for my non-technically inclined lady, it takes decent photos and it shoots HD

It depends on how big your pockets are. The Canon S90 is the best pocket cam, but the video is not great. The Olympus EP1 or EP2 fitted with a panasonic 20/F1.7 will just fit inside a pocket barely and will give you DSLR performance as well as 720p. You can get an S90 and a Zi8 as well for a combo solution.

I have been doing allot of homework on the pocket cams and noticed that its head to head with the Samsung u10 and the Kodak Zi8. Most people like the Zi8 though becuase it shoots better than the Samsung in low light.

Would very much like to see little sample shoots of this and other card-sized "HD" cams.

Got any footage of your Powershot posted anywhere?

    Thanks,
    R.

I doubt it does photos, but those Pocket HD video cameras around (I do believe Kodak, and Flip make them) actually take some pretty decent video.

Best photo P&S is the Powershot S90 or Lumix LX3. Depending on which suits you best, those two are well above the average lot of point and shoot cameras. The video on both, however, is so and so. Pretty good for the average point and shoot though.

I love my Canon Powershot SD980IS. Built in wide angle lens, touch screen operations, and 720p video.

This is a video uploaded from the camera straight to youtube. You can select 720p to view the HD file

    Smile My choice, and why:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FInhfyvoGOA"]YouTube- #11: DANGEROUS review of Casio EX S12 "HD" digicam[/ame]

choose "720P" if YT offers that playback option?

summary: a good point and shoot, tiny, reliable, inexpensive minicam
for instant capture of life's moments. There are other brands, yes,
but for years, I have used this family of "card" sized, Casios:
They always work and are "one round button" to push, to start the video:

Press "on", then press the round button on the back.
This one is a nearly-discontinued model; it employs now-nearly-obsolete,
"motion jpeg" = very easy to edit in any editing program: no complex codecs,
no special editing program; in fact, if it's just to be for a casual sharing:
upload the pure output, direct to YT, for instance, if you have the bandwidth.

A sample of such an output will be put to YT soon as I can make a shorty-demo,
NO editing, no nothing but...say, a view of lapping waves at the seashore.

Let's see how well YT can render this cams native, "720P"output, to
YT's proprietary 'flv' of this present day (they are always "tweaking" their
    program-conversion process, it seems:

Q:, rhetorical: what is the "purest", best video quality of this sort of
camera; both on the computer, raw output, and, via the uploaded-direct
    to YT, version ??

(will be a HUGE upload, for say, 20 seconds of video, native-source).

Answers only lead to more and better questions
And also: to a better deal for the person desiring a tiny,
competent, 'minidigicamcorder" for "those special moments",
such as: accident/robbery/public event capture, and covert work too.
It records sound VERY well, for what it is.

See the more formal review of this -sort- of Casio,
the S770 (obsolete, SD only) but...the audio capture for voices?
Perfect for out of doors work, for bike rides. No wind noise.

Have tips about that. To be continued in some other thread.

    Thank you, nobody's Fools Crow,

    Weedy

    For video: iPod nano.
Convenient. Records voice memos too. No stills though.

iPhone seems even better and you don't need to carry two devices. The next one might even shoot HD!
Imagine, you'll be able: record ideas with voice recorder, write a script, draw a storyboard, shoot, edit, publish the movie on YT in HD, share it, get feedback.
On the same, one device that can be carried in a pocket. On one battery charge, if you are fast enough.

Either the ZR800 or the Aiptek Action HD GVS. Both Have mic inputs, stabilization, progressive scan, good stuff!
I have been spending too much time on a Model Railroading Forum and Homework. but I'm Back.

I have a canon S90...really like this little thing....has 28mm/2.8 video works well in low light ... takes good pictures...I use it mostly in low light situations....some examples below...my apologies in advance for the audio...i'm still learning how to make needed adjustments on the fly and i wish I could use external an external mic source...other than that I'm pretty happy with the S90....now all i have to learn is how to lock exposure...as you will see in the videos....my exposure jumps regularly...arrrggghhhhh

My current pocket camera--just fits in a pocket--is the Olympus E-PL1 with a Panasonic 20mm lens. This replaced the Canon S90, which replaced the Fuji F31fd. Great camera.
