help.. timecode from camera to clip

Heya folks,

I'm in need of a bit of advice for a work project. I aplogise in advance if my questions are basic and lack the lingo, or if I am going about things the wrong way, but I am pretty ignorant when it comes to this sort of thing.

I have a section of video which needs to be tied into a series GPS locations.

The GPS clock and the camera clock were synchronised before the video was taken and the times match up very well between GPS waypoints and locations of known features on the video.

The camera I have is the HV20 and am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3

What I am trying to do now is capture the video off the camera to AVI complete with the time stamp as it appears on the camera.

I couldn't find a way to get the timecode off the camera with the video, only the tape time from start. I tried to generate a new timecode using a known point on the tape and the displayed timecode on the camera, however, when I get to the end of a 15 min clip there is almost a 5 min discrepancy.

obviously there is a difference in speed betwene the the generated timecode and the camera timecode. I dont really care if the tape runs too fast or too slow, just that the timecode matches the time it was taken.

Any ideas/suggestions on how I can get the correct timecode onto my clips?
I am happy to learn new techniques but please bear in mind my limited base knowledge

1. Capture standard definition though the analog feeds with the time code displayed on screen.

2. Capture high definition through HDMI with the time code displayed on screen.
