Default Need a mentor for senior project

    Hi,

I am making a film for my senior project and I am in need of a mentor. I will be using the HV40 so I thought I would look here for a mentor.

I need someone who is over 18 and has had experience in the field (Professionally).

I do not have to have personal contact with my mentor, email is just fine.

If there is anybody who can do this it would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

A mentor for what? Videography? Your gonna have to be more specific than that, their are thousands of different jobs in the video/film industry. What are you interested in pursuing?

Well I am going to be producing pretty much all of the elements of the film (writing, directing, editing, cinematography ect..)

I really do not need someone who knows it all, just someone who has had professional experience with any of the elements of film making.

Someone who can give me advise and make sure I meet my rubric standards is all need.

Well a mentor will pretty much just make sure I am doing what I need to do to meet my standards on my rubric while also giving me any advise I could possibly use along the way.

well, rubric wise i give you all A's. (if thats what grades are these days)

here is my advice: great job. keep trucking. do it your way and call it art, art need not be what someone else defines it as.

    there, mentor on the go-go.

This site is all the mentor you need, If you can't find it here , then you should look for another hobby.

I guess what im saying is, This site has moreless every aspect of film making with in it. If you can come up with a question that hasn't been asked here, I would be very suprised.

So use your imagination to come up with an idea, and use the threads as a guide. thats all you need.

This site does offer A LOT of info but I need an actual person. It is a requirement for my senior project.

So I thought maybe there was someone here who has done something professional that could help me out. All it takes is a few email conversations.

I thought I made it pretty clear when I said,

"I NEED someone who is over 18 and has had experience in the field (Professionally)".

I do need this mentor very soon, like in the next week, so if anybody out there can do it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Are the rubrics coming from your mentor or are they coming from your school.
What are the Student Learning Outcomes, on which base or standards are you to be assessed/evaluated?

The student (me) makes the rubric before he starts the project and sets standards for himself. When the project is done it is up to the mentor to go over the project and the rubric and make sure that it is up to standard.

Then set up the rubrics, publish them here, start your project and we'll see...

Before I even setup a rubric I am supposed to have a mentor. It is setup that way, but I am making my proposal for the project tonight and I should have the rubric done.

I will post it here later.

True, but people will often use the word "need" when they don't actually need something. Telling us the reason why you need something is immensely helpful.

Anywho, that's a fairly minor nit-pick. I'd be willing to help, but I'm no professional. Good luck!

I too am seeking a teacher.

If anyone knows of a great course involving Final Cut for beginners, or for women, I would travel anywhere ( though the more interesting the local the more likely i will do it) and be so stoked to take that course. Even a course that can show teach basics related to final cut, posting to you tube , web related capabilities, using the HV with this program etc...I would love to access some one who could speed me forward a bit. I know I know there are alot of smarties on this forum that tell me to do it myself but hey its lonely in a circle of one all the time. A course with another more advanced would be an inspiration. A course that doesnt make me have to morgage the farm to pay for it though. Could even be someone willing to take it on one on one > Eugenia are you offering any classes in San Fran?? Anyone else ? I'd travel and pay to spend quality time with a mentor. My own desire. No rules given to me from on high.

do it your way and call it art, art need not be what someone else defines it as.
If that is the case than 1.) Why do you show it to any one? 2.) why would some one who has this view be on a site dedicated to betterment of video film or video art?

Dervish what level of class is this for? High School or college/university. What aspect of motion images are you interested in? Film, experimental film, or video art?

I am interested in this mentor thingy.

    because

    1. why keep it to yourself. maybe someone else's vision that isn't by the book or mainstream may set fire to the imagination of many.
    2. it is betterment. if you think otherwise, why do anything?

rules are made to be broken, and the world is open to interpretation. if you want to confine yourself within some narrow band of pre-defined methods and ideals, go ahead.
but whats the point. it was people that thought outside of the rules that made great steps in all facets of art, from painting, music, sculpture, everything.
if you want to lie by someone else's constructs, more power to you. but if you do, all you are doing is mimicking something that already is established. where's the betterment in that?

Ok, there are a few people who would be willing to.
What was the first paragraph in your syllabus ... starts something like: "By the end of this semester the student will be able to...." ?

Which is why dedicated art school is a crock, including film. Lots of people come out of so called film school and their camera work is lalalala.

'art school' is just a term for an institution that will teach you what has already been done and what you can do to achieve a specific perception (by 'others') of your work. The problem is that 'others' are constantly altering how they perceive things . Additionally, to know what has already been done only serves you as a starting point to do your own.
That's the point where only practicing will help you any further...

In the old days almost everything was done by mentoring. There were not these endless institutions where you pay , and owe forever for these redundant classes taught by tired proffeseurs with lots of rules to follow. A great school and teacher is a great thing when you want or need it but apprenticing/ mentoring has a great value too.
