Nice (video) camera. Finally.
Can't wait to see how Scarlet compares when it gets official (especially bang for your buck compared to the 7D). The GH2 may also come back strong next year.
But the 7D is here now. And it looks bad ass. Very tempting.

Hey, Eugenia, I asked at Prolost, but do you by chance have any more of those raw sample clips?
Also, as far as lenses are concerned, I'm definitely looking for wider-end zoom ranges with a solid f2.8 all the way through. Like some old FD or Nikkor stuff; I'm not gonna buy new as it would quickly lap the cost savings of the 7D. Rough tally is still almost $3Gs for me -- 7D body, wide-zoom plus a couple of mandatory/fast primes (cheaper the better, but f2.8 is what I want), H4n and mic, plus taxes... I think that's the kind of gear kit I'm gonna go for.

Looks like Canon might be planning to make sure the 5D is still top dog. But this will be great news for current MKII owners if true.
Still not swaying my 7D vote though. :P
Yeah but I thought the 7D would be fake too, the first post of the thumbnail sized 7D wasn't to reassuring, but this is a stickied thread now. :P
Canon would have no reason not to update the frame rates. It would be a nice gesture to the faithful 5D users that specifically bought it for video.
Ugh. You have missed a few episodes regarding the 5D. There are many who have talked to canon and got the same reply: Canon's 5D hardware is clock-locked to 30 fps, so it's difficult to offer 24p in that camera. A bright engineer might find a solution, but so far, I have more reasons to believe the clock-locking thing, than this latest 5D rumor.
Ah I see, I never really kept up to date with all the info on the 5D. Thanks for clearing that up for me, so I guess even rumors aren't viable until someone (Canon or hack) actually releases an fix that can change that 30fps lock.
I bet by the time I save enough money for this camera Panasonic will come out with a camera that blows it away. Or the best case scenario is I save up enough money and Canon drops the price of the 7D.
Eugenia,
What other lenses would you recomend besides the 28mm 1.8 in the link? Right now I have a EF 50mm 1.8, and an EF-S 18-55 IS.
Thanks
Luke
Oh oh... Problems: http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.p...mwbmzy&thumb=5 (download the original file and zoom in in my arrows)
I grabbed that pic at full quality. Look at the arrows where it shows real encoding problems. These are not lens problems, they are encoding ones. At 48 mbps I would not expect that look (not even if there's motion in the scene), heck, I wouldn't expect these *kind* of artifacts not even at 3 mbps.
Let's hope that it's just the beta firmware to blame and not how the camera actually records in the production model. If that's how it does things, then it's a pretty useless cam.
Please note that this comment post assumes that the videos here http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E7D/E7DVIDEO.HTM are DIRECTLY out of the camera.

50/1.8 (or 50/1.4 if you can afford it), then 85/1.8. On the other hand, if you are someone who'd be shooting a lot of "normal" angles, the set of 24/2.8, 28/2.8 and 35/2 is a versatile one.
Hi,
exactly what sample video are you looking at? I've got the link but there are few up there.
I saw that earlier... I just brushed it off since all the other videos didn't show this, Let's hope this is what you say it is.
I've said this before though.....that you can also see a fair amount of mudd in 5Dll video as well.

I closed my Vegas now, but I think it was this clip I grabbed the shot from http://www.imaging-resource.com/PROD...h_MVI_1954.MOV or this one http://www.imaging-resource.com/PROD...h_MVI_1955.MOV
Even without a high-motion shot, the quality is abysmal. It's just not detailed. Let's hope that it's the lens he used to blame regarding detail.
I want to like the 7D but no autofocus in video mode is hard for me to accept, I am not a filmmaker so I need the autofocus for quick shooting.
Plus Canon repair just pissed me off so I have a bias against them now![]()
BTW, Vegas will recognize the 24/60p files as progressive, but not the 30p ones. You will have to do this to fix Vegas with the 7D 30p files: http://techblog.cineform.com/?p=1407
