Would a 72mm threaded light ring work for your setups? (using filter adapters if needed). Or would anyone need something larger for their add-on lens?

72mm sounds big enough to me. The largest lenses I have are 67 and 72mm threads.

Looks great! I've used fabric and table cloth green screens and this is way superior.

i would go larger than 72 to be safe. I think the EX1 is 77mm.

Work in progress, 90%-ish complete, details here. Does a lot of stuff, GPU accelerated too (previews all effects in full HD quality in real-time on a decent setup).

EDIT: I should say 'previews in real-time on Premiere'. I can't get even unprocessed video to preview in real-time in AE (although I hear that's normal, I haven't used it properly yet).

    Looking great gl!
Can you post some images of the ring light you're using? or is it top secret?

And the HVX200 is 82mm, which is a very widely used camera. 82mm would be big enough.

    Hi
Could you provide us with a raw m2t footage, just a couple seconds, so we could play with it?
I'm asking because I'm not impressed with a final quality of your keyed footage. On the other hand, a non-keyed shot seems to look spectacular. So I just want to figure out a problem (vimeo codec, bad keying software etc)
If you'd upload a single frame of a same shot but without foreground object (so-called "clean plate") as well - it would be quite nice!
    Thank you

Good request... I'd like to do the same iff possible.
If you are worried about where to host it, you can get 100mb of free space on drop.io

    Cheers.

    Sure, grab it here.

By all means. I haven't done much shooting lately, but I've been concerned about the quality of the raw footage from my camera - it's seems awful crummy. I turned sharpening off for this shoot (and had a wideangle adapter on) so it looks worse than normal, but does this look right to anyone?

Are you referring to fine details like hair getting keyed out? Edge-handling on my keying software isn't working right now (I'm recoding it), so I was a bit heavy handed with the thresholds to compensate. But it still looks miles better than the built-in Premiere chromakeyer (far better edges & no colour tint/fringes). What software do you guys use? I'd love to see the results.

I didn't shoot one last time, & I can't do it right now as the gear is at another place and requires setting up each time - but I will next time I shoot.

I've done a keying comparison between Premiere's ChromaKey and my LumaChroma (alpha verison without edge handling) - a bit easier on the threshold this time .

Note how Premiere looses a few more details, and how blocky and green its edges are.

In general, fine details cannot be keyed in 4:2:0 (and this is true for all consumer formats), as the crucial chroma resolution is only 1/4 of the frame resolution! You really have to shoot @ 4:2:2 (eg. via HDMI) or better to preserve them.

No trees were harmed in the sending of this message; however, a significant number of electrons were slightly inconvenienced.

Very close now. It's been tricky to put together as I want to make it a quality package (down to every detail), and keep thinking of ways to improve it. It's also all being hand-made & some parts are coming in from overseas. I will post with screen sizes, prices and mockups of the final hardware in the next couple of days.

Note this will be a very limited run, 5-6 systems only, and unless there's huge demand I probably won't make any more.

This is very exciting. My son, Ben Kadie, uses a lot green screen, but he likes to film outside to get the free light.

Any idea if it will work outside?

    Thanks Much!
    Carl

I haven't tried it but it might be tricky, at least if the sun is shining directly on the fabric it might reflect too much light. And the LEDs might have a hard time competing with it. But if I get a chance I'll try it.

I want one. Have been saving for a green screen and this could be a perfect alternative.

    Can wait for pricing.

I fully expect to be walking into a cinema not too many years from now telling my wife, "I remember when this director's dad used to post his kid's latest film on HV20.com!"
