I have purchased many things online but have never seen any thing like this. waiting for something for over a month is too much, especially when I do need it for a shoot. I don't think anyone is that busy as to not at least read his e-mails and reassure his costumers that he is doing something about the problem. as of now, I do feel ripped off, and the only reason I bought the adapter through this forum is because I saw a lot of good responses - but I guess I was wrong.
I have passed the place where I say "neil, please e-mail me back". he is taking advantage of the fact that I am not from america, and that's it.
    disgusting.
Wow, sorry you feel that way.

I do know that it takes a while to get the adapter once ordered. Mine took over a month. It killed me to wait that long, but when I got it I got a quality product, packed neat and everything

Take a look at TwoNeil's thread posted 2008 December 4th 23:44. Sounds like that is being addressed. I'm in that crowd, so I should be expecting a replacement piece, too. I don't know how it'll come, but I'll certainly take it.

BTW, I believe TwoNeil is from Canada...

I mean, don't you think it's called a DIY adapter for a reason?

And i'm not just blowin smoke here. I ordered an adapter on October 29th, and have still not received it. That's 36+ days. But whatever, that's the chance I took when I bought it. Yeah his communication kinda sucks, but he has apparently actually shipped out products to tons of people, as vimeo proves. He's told everyone he's gonna replace the defective part, just take a chill pill.

I like these forums a lot, but dang if there aren't a ton of people who are spoiled by amazon.com, bhphotovideo, and overnight shipping. Ridiculous "I WANT IT NOW" mentality. If you HAVE to have something immediately, don't buy from an individual on online forums. That simple.

I ordered mine on September 2nd and got it on October 24th. If I counted correctly, that's 52 days...

I HATE ordering online because I prefer to pick it up locally, myself. In this case, there was no choice. The seller was in a different country, so I had to just wait.

I've never met him, and haven't done anything spectacular, but I had great communication with him.

But, fellas, sometimes the wait is just a part of the deal. There's a step-up ring that I need that's only available from a dealer in India. It takes about two days to ship out after receiving the product, and then 10-14 working days in transit (not counting Sundays), and we have a holiday season on us. It'll take forever for me to get the thing, but if I'm going to do it, well, I'll have to bite the bullet and do it.

There are some cases where it's like "you know what? This is bananas. I'm not dealing with this kind of wait. I'm moving.", but I find this wait was worthwhile. I suggest holding on a little more. (That's not ALWAYS my stance, but I take it here, now. )

Honestly, I don't use the instructions. I have a Canon mount. If you use Canon and would like to know what I do I can tell you. I don't know if it would work with Nikon, as the Nikon lenses have manual aperture settings. The Canon is electronic...

    Something concerns me...

My private messages and emails requesting order confirmation have all gone unanswered since ordering three weeks ago and all I am asking for is some sort of confirmation as to when the new build will be shipped.

There really is no excuse for this lack of communication.... vacation is over.

I know what it's like answering a lot of email... I have thousands of clients online and answer hundreds of emails each week.

But when someone sends you a couple hundred bucks you need to reply to them... two weeks and no reply, not even an acknowledgment of the order is not acceptable.

So Neil... when you read this...

    Still awaiting your reply.

Its the sole reason I didnt buy from him, Ive no doubt he makes a quality product and I would have received it eventually but it doesnt appear as if he prioritises customer communication too highly. I emailed him enquiring about details for purchasing his adapter, I was almost sold on the basis of the footage I had seen but then he never got back to me (still to this he day hasnt replied). I then made the same enquirey with Greg Tay about the GT35PRO and promptly got a very friendly and informative reply. Ive now ordered my adapter from Greg and am very much looking forward to receiving it. The difference of one order Im sure wont make or break Neil but its a perfect example of where a simple reply to an email would have gained him one more customer.

55-57mm step-up ring. 57mm is non-standard, so local shops might not have them. eBay has a vendor in India and China. Check them out...

I sympathise with you Balagan and Transparent.

It is pure coincidence that I am posting about the same issue. I received notification of the defective part November 4, saying that a replacement was being issued. Since then, I have sent 4 somewhat patient emails over four weeks with no reply, despite seeing active posts from Neil regarding sales enquiries on this forum.

I have repeatedly stated that I leave for holiday on the 17th of December, the whole point of buying the adapter (and the camera itself) was to use on that trip. Now I have a broken adapter (broke about a week after I received it) and no indication of when the defective part will be replaced.

I realise that Neil is just one person, but he is also selling a product through a legitimate online website. Neil is not unique in being a one-man online shop, hence I expect the same service I get from any other small operation. If Neil has the time to answer people looking to buy from him, he has time to answer those who paid for a broken product.

I came on here as a last resort. I waited eight weeks for the original adapter, had it for a week before it broke. I received the email from Neil about the defective part shortly before it broke and was really pleased at what I perceived to be proactive service. Sadly, 5 more weeks on, that expectation has now expired. I am now without adapter for the primary purpose I bought a camera and adapter.

Neil, it would be great to hear from you. You should have my address from the numerous emails already sent.

I have been trying to contact Neil as well after sending over a payment per a number of emails we have exchanged back in mid-November. I have email and PMed but no response. I see Neil is back here posting on the forum .... Neil, are you out there? Can you please respond? You have my PayPal payment ....

Hey there - with all due respect, maybe setting up your website should be moved down the order a bit, as you have had my payment for 6 weeks and haven't answered my emails.

I understand you aren't Amazon, but please understand that 200 bucks is a lot of money, and that if one is told 3 weeks, and then they are not responded to, that things can become a black hole that wil be filed with presumptions.

I'm going to imagine that having a functioning website will only exacerbate your backlog and add to your headaches.

Please give us an honest idea how long we will have to wait at this point.

    thanks

    OK, here ya go.

You'll have your lens, then your adapter, then ring 3 (you have to purchase that from TwoNeil, I believe) (the bottom ring comes off of the adapter and you put ring 3 on instead), then the 55-57mm step up adapter, then the Opteka, then a 43-55mm step up adapter, then your camera.

Twon, after my exams are over I'll do you a favor and work on a renovated website for ya, I find it a PITA to even look at the poor thing and I'm sure your fans/customers would love to get your product :P

I'm having fun cramming 15 hour Design projects at the moment but after the 18th I'll have nothing but free time

lalalala amazon, I'm always buying through e-bay, and that's individual people. and when I send them e-mails, they reply to me. and when they send me a broken item, they send a replacement and they communicate. the only verification I have that this transaction will be complete is through e-mails - and when that doesn't happen, well, you get a bit suspicious.
I promised I would use my camera + adapter on a shoot. because of this I can't fulfill that promise and it looks bad for me. when people ask "when can you?" I have no answer because this little lalalala isn't answering my e-mails. and again, it looks bad for me. I have paid good money and placed faith in this man to not do me over. I have no lalalalalalala mentality of I want it now, I am not a 15 year old kid. but I do take myself and my work seriously, as should mr. neil.
information is free - the least the man can do is provide it.
and I think a lot of people here agree with me....

First - I just want to separate myself from Balagan

I understand the frustration of flying solo then getting swamped.

This is a one-man operation, in an informal setting. It's not Nikon we're talking about.

If your standards are high enough that clients will be disappointed when you are missing a single piece of gear, you are clearly far too professional to be using a 500 dollar camcorder, and are getting fees high enough to rent a pro camera for the shoot.

I'd rather be out of pocket than disappoint a valued client, especially one as temperamental as the one you describe, Balagan.

These adapters only exist because some clever people figured out how to make them with existing parts. They even tell you how to make one yourself, something that should tell you that it is not a greed-motivated profit vacuum you're dealing with. (might I suggest T-mobile for that experience if you are looking for a punching bag)

I just wanted to make sure that my previous post was seen as a timeline suggestion and not a bashing.

But then again, if I don't eventually get my adapter - I can always send the bucket of rotting squid I keep in the basement for such occasions....

    just kidding.....

  21. #671

Default I'm in the same boat

Transparent, Balagan, Markw; I had my adapter just one day, and then it broke off. The strange thing is that I thought Neil was explendid keeping the contact up before, under, and after the buy (had like 8 e-mails with each other), but the moment I mentioned the broken ring issue, he suddenly was like gone from the earth. So I've sent 3 patient mails myself, and from then it has been exactly like Balagan has explained. And I've been planning a big short movie this christmas, with a lot of people, for a long time.

It took 'only' 3 weeks to get the adapter from I made the payment, but 2 months to get a proper ring?? I was growing concerned he was like them one-man businesses who suddenly felt the urge to disappear like he never existed.

I've noticed Neils update here, and I hope sincerely I'm in that shipment.

    Default Quick Question

I've got your 35mm setup with an EOS mount. It's been working great, I'd like to mount FD lenses on it instead. How can I order an adapter (though you or anywhere else)?

    thanks

you can get an EOS/FD adapter i believe on ebay.

Edit: I hear this EOS/FD adapter is annoying and sort of expensive.
