Focusing issue with Small subjects - Taekwondo Video attached

I've only just started using the HV40 and I did some filming at Taekwondo Victoria State Selection and I noticed sometimes the Camera's Auto Focus was focusing on the Background and not the Subjects. For the most part it was ok. With this type of footage should I be going to Manual Focus?

Yes - especially since the subject is moving around. The camera is easily confused. Since you're always at the same distance from the action, use manual focus (+focus assist feature).

Thanks for that, I will give it a go at the next competition. I'm going to look up focus assist in my manual now
