I'm just curious if these batteries will work with the Canon VIVIA HF M300/M30/M31 camcorders? so we have multiple levels of "working" here...

    1) Battery charge indicator on-screen is working and showing accurate time left of battery
    2) No "press OK" indicator on the Canon camera when powering on
    3) Chargeable using Canon AC adapter while in camera, using external Canon charger, or non-OEM charger

    Thanks!

I couldn't edit my post for some reason, but this website seems to show the Canon BP827 at 2670 mAh.

I've been using the decoded BP827 from Taky for about a month now, and it works great.

I also got some decoded LP-E6's for my 7D and they're working well too.

I was researching a problem with my camcorder and saw this thread about batteries. I didn't read every post, but I frequently see one fact overlooked when discussing LiIon batteries: charge cycles. LiIon bats can be charged whenever convenient, but they have a limited number of charge cycles for their life. So every time you charge one, think of that as taking one ticket at the meat counter. Once all the tickets are gone, no more meat, i.e. no more charging. Depending on the battery, they have some fixed number of charges. So if you used if very little each day, say 10%, and then charge it each day, and let's say you get 365 charges, it will last a year. If you didn't charge it until it was depleted (because the math is simple, yet incomplete for other reasons), you'd get 10 years of usage at the same usage rate. (This applies to all LiIons, such as in laptops as well - it's the nature of LiIon batteries.) So I always recommend not using the battery unless you need it, and still try to use it significantly before recharging. Don't just use it briefly and then charge immediately. It's more cost effective if you have two so you have a backup battery to cover your event, and only charge the depleted battery. This way you'll get maximum life from the battery.

The other fact about LiIon's is that they lose their charge just sitting there, so it is best to rechage an unused battery approximately every six months to keep it useable.

P.S. Thanks for all the other info in this thread, I learned a few good things!

Hey guys, I can't help but notice that the decoded batteries list the following models as compatible:

    Canon VIXIA HF10
    Canon VIXIA HF11
    Canon VIXIA HF100
    Canon VIXIA HF20
    Canon VIXIA HF200
    Canon VIXIA HF S10, HFS10
    Canon VIXIA HF S11, HFS11
    Canon VIXIA HF S100, HFS100
    Canon VIXIA HG20
    Canon VIXIA HG21
    Canon VIXIA HG30
    Canon iVIS HF10
    Canon iVIS HF11
    Canon iVIS HF100
    Canon iVIS HF20
    Canon iVIS HF200

I know that this is the same battery my HF S200 uses (as does the entire S-series) but I wanted to check if these aftermarket "decoded" batteries work properly with the new VIXIA S-series of 2010?

If you camcorder takes the BP-8xx batteries, it's very likely it needs a decoded battery to communicate with the camcorder for the remaining battery level to be shown on the LCD screen.

I have not used that exact one but I do have one similar. It will charge a Canon battery but the remaining time indicator did not work when I placed the battery on the camcorder. I thought I had damaged the battery but when I recharged it the next time with the camera it was okay. So, I use this charger for my generic brand (it has a push button LED remaining charge indicator on the end of it) and charge my Canon batteries with the camera.

When I charge the battery it charges fine up until the halfway point then the red flashing light, which normally blinks every second or two while charging a Canon battery, suddenly blinks very fast and it won't charge past that point. Anyone else have this problem?
