Default Couple of shorts from a newbie

Hey everyone! New to the world of the HV30 but have been stretching its legs lately with a couple of silly shorts, both of which I've entered in to the Virgin Media Shorts competition.

I would be very greatful if you could watch and critique them

    Norman's Detour

    http://www.virginmediashorts.co.uk/f...ormans-detour/

    Disquiet Steven

    http://www.virginmediashorts.co.uk/f...squiet-steven/

Shot without lens adaptors or anything fancy, just a couple of cheapo lenses (which becomes apparent in certain shots)

    Cheers all!

I like Disquiet Steven - great pacing, nice color correction.. and hilarious...!! nice work.. but dialogue scenes need better sound. maybe a external mic will not harm your work.. keep the wood work friend.!!!

    Sellout! lol.

I agree a *better quality* external mic would do wonders for you.

Loved them both but Disquiet Steven was the best.

Nevermind the above technical comments ... you can work all that out in the long haul.

Much more importantly ... your obviously familiar with planning a project, story boarding and being concerned with creating something original. And *that's* what will make not having a good mic or some other bit of tripe meaningless in the long run.

    :-)

Good work with ghetto gear FTW. Keep making things.

    Your on your way.

Enjoyed both. - you may be new to HV30 but obviously not to filmmaking.

Like the second one better. In the first one, he is stopped by the police but what happened to the car?

Ha! Funny. Really like both of them. Thanks!

Didn't look too hard, but can we vote for these?

    Deborah

PS the editing in the first one was a little hard to follow, but the "punchline" was better

    Cheers all! Comments much appreciated!

I did have an external mic which has served me well in the past. In fact I think it was absolutely fine on Disquiet Steven, but seemed to fail on me dramatically for Norman's Detour.

And yeah, not so new to film making in general but have been using a 4:3 1ccd camera since forever. Pushed it as far as I could but eventually realised I couldn't use it forever

Thanks again guys, and thanks for welcoming me to the forum. Been a regular reader for a long time.

An attempt at comedy which made me laugh... that makes a change.

    Well done, Ornsack

The Korova milkbar sold milk-plus, milk plus vellocet or synthemesc or drencrom, which is what we were drinking. This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

Your color correction, for the most part, is good, however in several of the montage scenes in Disquiet, you corrected the greens to be more powerful, however it didn't look like you compensated for your actors' skin tones, so they were a bit green as well. Try a push pull method -- when you push the lows to one side of the spectrum, pull your highs the opposite way -- that way you can maintain the colors in the background and your actors won't end up looking like aliens.

It wasn't when it was open but it's closed. Doubt we'll get anywhere with it but cheers all who clicked on the link/voted!

Will be open again next year.

Cheers! Yup, did that, and I actually desaturated the greens so maybe your monitor colours are messed up..? I quite like green tints though. Worked on the Matrix anyway

Think it may just be the trees bouncing colour on to the actors. In the final shots everyone looks fine I think. Maybe.

Thanks all again for taking a look, and the feedback!
