Default FS: DOF adapter parts: GGs, Condensers and Holders

    • I've made a collection of screens of grade 5, 9 and 15 microns.
    • They are recomended for DIY vibrating adapters.
    • They fit in my JetSetModels leaf spring GG holder, the one that holds the Canon EE screens. VH57 Ver 1.1.
    • Not certain about the other holders, haven't tested them, this is the only one I have.

£8 Per Screen. Each comes with a free bag of Aluminium Oxide,
so you can regrind your screen or grind new screens! Should be as much as you will need.

    Screens are approximately 38mm x 25mm

    Paypal only

I only have a limited number.

For orders, email me with the screen/screens you want and i will send you a paypal request. Please remember to include your address along with your order.

You will need to use a condenser to use this ground glass, I purchased quite a few lens from surplusshed, and found that the L7310 was an excellent lens. It is the perfect size for EOS extension tubes and almost totally eliminates the hotspot. Also of all the lenses i purchased it seemed to be of the highest condition and quality, compared to other lenses which were marked and scratched. You want to avoid marking you condenser lens; since it is very close to your focus screen blemishes will affect the image to a larger degree than marks on the achromat.

For some reason the lens is no longer listed on SS; but you can still get it by entering the item number (L7310 ) into the quick cart on the left.

To mount it in the EOS tubes I put one layer of electrical tape (half width) around the condenser, and using a lens cloth I positioned it in my EOS tube with the flatter side facing the GG (inbetween the achro and GG). You can place it between the SLR lens and the GG but at the moment it seems to work fine for me in this configuration. I will perform some tests to check which setup produces the better image and report back later.

These are the same kind of screen I use in my DIY adapter tutorial.

This clip was filmed with a 5 micron GG; using just house lighting, it would look a lot better with proper lighting; there is some slight vignetting on the shots with my 135mm lens, but the lens is f 2.8 and being used at night so I think it works very well.

Unfortunately both of my cameras are being sent for repair so i won't be able to make more videos to show the screens off. I originally made this video to show off my DIY adapter, but since my cameras no longer work i have to use it here.

The clip is on youtube, watch it in HD the encoding is really poor! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8IIPRhYdUg&fmt=22"]YouTube - Quick DIY 35mm adapter low light test[/ame]

You can also download it, the file is over 100MB.

    Any questions just ask

I just watched the video, and the footage looks really good! Sharp, and bright.

I read your tutorial, and it said you made the GG holders. Are you offering those as well?

Also how much would this be in USD?

Unfortunately I cannot currently offer GG holders, I made mine using a laser cutter which I no longer have access to. I'll have a look to see if I can find my CAD plans and I can post them for you.

Thanks! Do you know how much one would roughly be (shipped) to the US?

    Thanks,

If you are talking about the GGs, shipping on the Ground Glasses is free.

I currently am not planning to produce GG holders.

    Yeah, that's what I meant. I saw the "£" symbol, that's why I was a little confused.

I had a lot of people requesting condensers so I have added the option to buy a condenser with your purchase, as the forum doesn't allow post editing I have extended some of my pictures in my first post to list the new condensers. I have tested them and they work very well in my DIY adapter. They are coated and fit perfectly in the canon EOS extension tubes.

They will be shipping by the end of next week for £8.

Shipping remains free, but condensers must be bought with a focusing screen.

i have the twoneil static with the opteka macro lens to reduce vignetting. What are the benefits (in image terms) that I can get with a condenser... if any?

Condensers are only for use with self ground GGs. The canon ee screens already have a condenser built in. The condenser helps remove vignetting.

It would not improve the image of your twoneil adapter because there is already a condenser in the canon screen, but would be necessary should you choose to use one of my GG screens.

Do you have gg holders? I want to construct vibrating diy adapter, but I don't know which screens of grade 5, 9 and 15 microns to buy.

Its strange: I bought that exact same condenser lens as you recommended on this page 4 months ago and have only just realised that its sitting in the bottom of my tool box. The strange thing is, it doesn't even look like a DCX (it looks more like a PCX) and when I tested it with my adapter, there was loads of circular distortion. It may be because I have the condenser between the SLR lens and the GG, whereas you have it between the GG and achromat.

At the moment i do not have GG holders to sell, due to me not having access to a laser cutter. I recommend people use the holders offered by Daniel available here:

    http://www.jetsetmodels.info/vibrating.htm

My screens are compatible with the canon EE GG holders.

When choosing a screen it is up to personal preference, 5 lets through slightly more light than 15, but 15 has a more filmic bokeh. 9 is a compromise between the two.

Well, I just switched the position of the condenser to the other side of the GG and now it works great. Its much better than the 54mm FL lens I used before.

Yeh, I read around the forum and thought that everyone seemed to think that between the SLR and GG was best, but from my own tests i find that placing the condenser between the GG and Achro works much better.

Another thing to pay attention to is that you have the correct amount of distance between the flatter side of your condenser and the GG, i find with the condenser i recommend it should be somewhere between 8-11mm.

what would be the difference between DCX and PCX condensers?
"The most important thing is not what's inside the camera, but rather what's in front and behind it"

It's definitely slightly confusing. PCX stands for plano convex and has 1 curved and 1 flat side. DCX stands for double convex and has 2 curved sides, they do not necessarily have to be curved by the same amount.

The one I offer is BI-ASPHERIC, but also a DCX because both sides are curved, like the one that Daniel recommends in his tutorial.

PCXs are meant to cause more distortion and spherical aberration than DCXs, but DCXs are generally more expensive than PCXs.
