Default DVR through HV20 to Vegas

I have an analog out on my DVR and I'd like to be able to capture that output on the computer through my HV20. I'm getting close, but it's not quite working.

I think my problem is with Vegas (Movie Studio Platinum 8.0). It just shows "device not recognized" when I'm all connected. I know the connections are good because I also have Nero Vision and it shows what's playing on the DVR in the capture preview window. I'd really like to get this working in Vegas, though, 'cause that's what I know how to use. Also, I can't get Nero to record the live feed, only what's on the tape.

    Any thoughts?

Well, I'm making progress. I wasn't able to capture DV video from a tape either, but I seem to have figured out how to do that. I'm sure long ago when I first ran Vegas and did my first capture it popped a dialog box asking me whether I wanted to capture HDV or DV. I selected HDV and don't ask me again, apparently.

To capture DV now I've discovered that I have to go to Option/Preferences/Video tab and check the Use External Video Capture Application box. Poof, it sees the HV20 and I captured some video. Now to try connecting everything up again and see if I can get a live feed from the DVR!

The external capture program it's using is Sony Video capture 6.0, by the way. So now the problem is that it doesn't seem to let me capture the live feed. If I hit Capture Video, it starts the tape and captures that. I don't get a live view of the playing DVR (except when I switch between Capture and Advanced Capture...it then shows a fraction of a second of the live feed).

Anyone know how to/whether it's possible to get the live feed? I'd rather not have to capture to tape and then from tape to computer if I can do it all at once.

And now I can see the live feed on the computer. I did the ol' function/rec-pause/execute on the HV20 like I was going to record from the DVR to tape, and poof! I see the live feed on the computer. In fact, when I hit Capture Video now, it captures a few seconds of the live feed before the tape kicks in and starts playing!

Of course, I still need a way to tell it not to play the tape at all and just capture that darn live feed!
