Dang, another version: 0.1.6 is out, and it has AUTOMATED FOCUS PULLS!!!

Anyone here keeping up with this, and tried it?

Wow, that's awesome. Is that a firmware hack or a plug-in or something? Because until now, I haven't heard of any enhancements being made to the 5D's capabilities.

Hope to see some of your vids btw, heh.

Default Full 1080i out while recording

OK...we knew it would be just a matter of time before Hudson pulled this off...but dang!!! This is what he has to say:

My most recent hacks allow the camera to remain in full 1080i mode on the HDMI while recording. Thre are still some bugs, as always. Once this is a little more polished it will be part of a 0.1.7 release of Magic Lantern.

This kind of brings it on par with the 7D which does not have this issue.

Cool....the video from the screen, according to Hudson, is after chroma subsampling but before H.264 compression. He mentions some caveats though.

It is after chroma subsampling, but before h.264 compression.

The real downer is that it is not full-screen; the 16:9 HDMI signal has the entire 3:2 sensor displayed on the screen, which requires 150 pixel side pillars. Then there is a soft matte to show the active 16:9 region. The effective resolution on HDMI right now appears to be about 1620x911.

But it is much, much better for monitoring and focus than the 480p signal
    !

He is stating that he is still working on getting rid of thos pilar boxes. SO...based on his findings it appears Canon purposely crippled the cam to not display on HDMI the way we would like. But there are other things that I need to consider...like possible overheating maybe. Still...this is a good start.

This sort of reminds me of the thread I started about capturing 29.97 video from the HV20 while in picture mode. It captured the whole sensor but had those same side pillars.

Ian, I wonder when there's any of this goodness coming for the 7D...
