Default Which type of lights do you favour?

Which are the lights you're most interested in acquiring (providing the prices are right, and not as expensive as current offerings).

You can vote for more than just one light.

I have Canon VL-10 10W light. It was okay but the bulbs are very expensive. I got one ran out every few months.

I also use the SWIT S-2010 LED light. I absolutely love it. With the dimmer switch. It's very useful. 40W only.

    That's a 10 to 12W light.

I only use CONSUMPTION as a reference, not "calculated/converted/lumen-output equivalent.

What is "Par"? I googled "HMI Par" but found only ads, no explanations of the term.

Anything LED which spells durability and power conservation. I have one of the micro LED panels which is extremely over priced. I like their light weight, dimmer capablility, & temp filters. I still wish I had one or two more of them but I refuse to put out $300 each for anymore.

    LOL

I already own most of the tungsten choices on your list (and aspire to own most of the HMIs).

Sheesh, I wonder if there's a name for this disorder I apparently have ...

I was thinking more like ASA 64 syndrome ... "My cheap little HD pocket cam will show you all ... just let me turn on a few (hundred) more (kilo)watts of light!"

No flos on the list? They're the lights I most like - more affordable than LED today, and cool.

They're not on the list BECAUSE they're cheap as.
They're a dime a dozen, not really worth the time to investigate.

ETC Source Four Ellipsoidal, ETC Source Four PAR. Both with an HPL575V lamp. Both have interchangeable lenses.

    Default CFL are not cheap

And when Kino's are used in many theatrical releases, I don't see how some CFL's can't be on the list.

I use the exclusively to balance daylight, since I am always shooting during the day time in practical locations, not in studio's or sets.

Are you kidding me? Kinos are crazy expensive, even the off brand versions. I think you might be confused?

Beyond the big names (ARRI, Mole-Richardson, Kino, etc.), see Cool Lights, Konova, EOS, Lowel, etc.

EDIT: The big change is the ever-increasing availability and output and ever-decreasing cost of high-CRI fluoro tubes, often in both daylight and tungsten balance, to fit a variety of fixtures.

    Default Berkley Colortran Light Kit

If I could bother anyone for advice or an opinion. I was wondering if this would be worth my $$.

    http://norfolk.craigslist.org/pho/1259551428.html

This would be my first lighting kit, I would use to conduct interviews with 1 person. Currently I am using natural light and just domestic lights from around the house... Dont have much experience with lighting so i was hoping for a little feedback. Thanks in advance.

If indeed it's two Mini-Pros in working order, I say go for it: I believe those are open-faced 250-300W with a moving bulb to adjust from spot to flood. Although they're no longer made, in their day Colortran was a highly respected lighting equipment manufacturer (plenty of their ERs are still going strong at the theatre where I work). You can still get replacement parts for many of them through the Leviton/NSI parts department, contact Susan Scott at (503) 404-5500.

It all depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Lot's of lights do different things.
