I can't put the lens gear and then remove it to put it on another lens? I'm also using the lenses for photography so it's somewhat silly to leave the lens gear on.

They sort of assume a tear-drop shape after they are formed, so you just have to kind of squeeze them onto your lens. I have been meaning to get a quick demo video put together. Hey Dave, got the lens gears and the rail mount a bit ago. Thanks a lot for sending a few extra stickers to replace the one I messed up.
Wanted to let you know that the medium size lens gear fits perfect on the canon 50mm EF lens. The new rail mount I got seemed to slide onto my rails much easier than the first one on my dfocus, didn't have to sand it or force it on. Nice work!

The exposed parts on my metal drive shaft thing are starting to rust. Is this to be expected? The parts inside the black thing haven't began this process yet. It still spinss perfectly fine though.
Yeah, they are uncoated steel so some surface oxidation is going to happen. You can take them off and clean them if desired. The best way is WD40 + Scotch-Bright. That will make them shinny and nice. If you don't have that around then any fine grit sandpaper will also work, 600ish. You could also let them soak in some Coke, the carbonic acid will clean the surface rust off nicely. Just don't drink the Coke afterwords.
The large gear works great on my 85mm Nikon lens. I was afraid that it wasn't going to fit, but it's nice and snug.

I will be selling them as soon as I can get my web site updated. I have a bunch of material and will probably start cutting them today. They will be offered as an optional upgrade to keep the initial cost down.

Paint on metal sucks. It will look black until the first time you touch it and then it will scrape off, looking worse than it did before paint. The real way to make them black would be to anodize them, but that would require me outsourcing labor which means more time to make them and more money. They could also be powder coated but that also is something I cannot do myself.Can you paint the metal parts black for some extra cash?
