Default Quirky 60i to 60p to 24p slow mo

Just had to try this special effect on my 60i footage. Take 60i at high shutter (used 250-500) then shoot. Use smart deinterlace to render 60p. Then use velocity envelopes to slow down and speed up. Add pan and crop to zoom in and out.

It's certainly very clear/sharp. Did you use smart deinterlace in vegas?

I tried it with both Vegas' smart Deinterlace and Mike Crash's smart deinterlace plug-in. That one produced a smaller file and somehow cleaner (at least in my mind) so I used it ... http://www.mikecrash.com/modules.php?name=Downloads

Looks good. But what file output did you use for the 60p setting? I can't get HDV 1080-60i to convert to HDV 1080 60p (I don't think 60p is supported by HDV standard.) So are you going to a lower res format?

    Lucasberg,
Smart Resample is in the properties of the clip. If you use Mike Crash's plugin you apply it to the track. If you don't have Vegas you can do the conversion using Avisynth + VirtualDub's smart deinterlace.

    Peter,
That's the tricky part. HDV 60p isn't a standard so I used WMV (1440x1080x24 1.333) Yes, lower bit rate in my test but you always have the option to use Lagarith/Uncompressed if you want lossless. H.264 took too long to render and came out blocky.

If you want to have nice slow motion effect I suggest to use Yadif deinterlacer via AviSynth. Yadif is a lot better than any other deinterlacer. Check my sample.

Atak, that's very nice and smooth. What was your workflow from avisynth to the final mp4? I see you are using 25p which may explain the smoothness since you're coming from 50i/50p. Though my 60p footage is smooth there is always some motion ghosting in the 24p conversion, I haven't figured out how to make it convert to clear single frames yet.

When I film with HDV 60i: is it better to convert it to 60p ?

In what occasions should I do so ?
