Default Open Source Camera - People needed

    Hi there

We are developping an open source camera based on ephel. Both hardware and software will stay open source.

Our current fact sheet, targets on page 1 (current camera on page 2):
    http://wiki.elphel.com/images/0/0d/E...ct_Sheet_2.pdf

And the best: we will achieve all this for less than the price of a basic s(c)arlet but a full frame sensor instead and yes, it shots RAW.

We need collaborators / electronic engineers / webprogrammers / input providers / future users and people question asking folks

If you think you can push this project foreward or just feel like being part of this great project. Write me a PM with your emailaddress. Get in touch!

    We is everyone who participates.

There are several skilled people behind the elphel network cam:

And there are about 7 people so far in the google group who want to make an open source cinema camera out of elphel.

There is also a pricelist of the current components:

    Cool

    Pretty fantastic!

This is exactly what I and others were talking about in this thread where I coined the Hv20 Zombie descriptive term.

    http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?t...+zombie&page=5

And here you are ACTUALLY doing an open source totally manually controlled HD camera!

I just joined your forum thread. You need a totally independent forum similar to the HV20 forum.

And I've bookmarked your forum and wiki.

    I will contribute.

It would be nice if the camera were designed to allow for two such cameras to be closely spaced (a mimimum of 65mm) for stereo 3D video shooting. Also, incorporate an inexpensive upgradeable design engineering path so hardware module upgrades can simply be dropped into existing hardware: remove and replace upgrades.

And for white / color balance: there are LEDs now that have very specific wavelengths. You should be able to use a red, green, and blue LED to manually calibrate the camera's white / color balance. This could be extremely simple and accurate. I expect that soon monitors, printers, projectors, and cameras will all be automatically color calibrated using internal LED calibration. Oh, well, there goes another patent.

It's going to take me some time to read a 72 page thread!

If I had any sort of skill I'd help out, alas, I don't.
But I sure am interested to see how its going.

I'm sur eI came across this before. One of the issues was how to record the data.
Last I heard a high speed laptop or desktop pc was needed...?

I have two question for you :
First : Why there is no model with 35 mm sensor in target?
Second : Why don't you have a real forum?
With just a thread in another forum, it is not easy to find answer in questions, or to debate.
I'm student in computer science, so I perhaps can help in web programming.

Why not just set up a free phpbb forum for the DIY camera?
Domains are cheap and i'm sure someone has some server space free.

    Exclamation

Better yet, since the point of an open source project is to contribute...
how about contributing it to the elphel project???

I'm positive if you asked Alex or Andrey ET AL to help they would be glad to have it assuming your at all qualified. I see lots of people asking for these features, but the point of a open source project is to work together not split things up. collaboration will make things go farther faster unless you just want to rip the work.

Besides Andrey has been working to the same end, not to mention is likely the best qualified at least on the hardware end.

It must have fizzled out. Would have been a really cool camera.
    I'm feeling frisky!
