    Default The 500D

    I read the following:

"This is Canon's latest entry-level, in order to be called the 500D, Europe and the United States known as the Rebel XRi; is the 350D (Rebel XT), 400D (XTi) and 450D (XSi), and 1000D (Rebel XS) follow-up models.

15.1MP CMOS,ISO 100-3200,DIGIC IV,3 inch LCD;3.5fps,Liveview. Probably know several of the current specifications for the 15.1MP CMOS, ISO values of 100-3200, the DIGIC IV engine, about 3-inch LCD; the number of sheets Continuous 3.5fps, nine-point AF; other part still face focus, Liveview and video features. In particular, this video features, Nikon D90 is aimed at the opponent, but HD video is very low, now only hope to have the H.264 MPEG-4 specifications.

Time is expected to released in March 2009, PMA Show appearance, time to market with the 450D about a year gap"

I just really hope Canon learned a few lessons from their 5Dm2 release.... namely 24P and manual control! If so, I'll be all over this camera.

This has the potential to be great. But i could see it at the same video quality as the D90 since it's the entry level and they want to push the MK2 more.

The above quote is from the canonrumors.com site. I'd assume it means they're saving the really juicy info for the announcement tomorrow.

Let's see how close to the GH1 this will be.

I dont think MKII has to worry. MKII has a better set of lenses and bigger sensor. It's still a still cam so it wont be affected as much as their camcorder line up

things to expect if it does have a video
    mov h264
    no manual controls
    1080 30p

lets not over react if it doesnt have what we ask for.

Maybe what dcloud mean is that EF lenses can be mounted on all Canon DSLR but EF-S can't be on 5DMK2 since it's full frame.

so fast lenses especially higher priced are best for MK2.

The only difference between the MKII and the Rebel line is the rebel sensor is cropped, meaning wide angle lenses on a Rebel will not be near as wide as they would on a MKII. Also, EF-S lenses still can be used on a MKII, you will just get vignetting.

But yea.. 1080/24p, manual controls... PLEEEEEEEASE?!

All I want is 1080P 24p with a shoe for a mic and mic input. Anything more would be icing on the cake.

    Default T1i?

    from canonrumors.com

    Do we have a name?
I received an email claiming the new name for the Rebel will be the T1i

    Some more information
It’s in between 50D and XSi. It has the same size sensor as the 50D, 15MP. It has creative auto mode. Same body as the XSi. It has a video mode. 720p at 30 frames/sec and 1080p and 20 frames/sec.
This is a rumor, not fact……… yet.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure if the 20 fps is a typo???

God I hope it is. It actually does sound like a typo, because 20 is close to 24.

like arbi and lux said, if you used a 24mm EF lens on the 500d, it will be 38mm (x1.6) its actually hard to find a cheap wide lens EF-S

hey new video for the T1i?

20FPS 1080P is really disappointing. I would even took 720P 24P. Although I've never seen 20 FPS video, maybe it's really close to 24 fps.

I bet it's for real at 20fps. 24fps would trump the 30fps that the higher-end, more expensiev MKII offers. It wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being 20fps for no good reason except to keep the camera from being too easily used professionally.

Wow, I didn't realize this gizmodo link had the actual specs released. I thought we were still waiting until tomorrow for the big announcement but that link seems to even have sample video footage from the camera.

    Interesting. 20p huh? Oh well.

    It's official, it is 20fps.

This is quite disappointing, no external mic input. So it's still Panasonic GH1, now waiting on the Nikon D400.

I know I shouldn't get my hopes up but I'm just really disappointed. The video from it doesn't even look that good.

20FPS at 1080p? All spirits crushed... Damnit, I really had my hopes up... Would it have been that hard to get just FOUR MORE FRAMES?! JUST FOUR!!!! I could live without mic in, I can live without full manual (there are still work arounds) but 1080/20p is just a simple JOKE.

    Canon... WHY?!

    *cries*

You can cross out panasonic for the same reasons canon limited thier DSLRs.. however, NIKON is a possibility since they have no camcorder line that will be threatened by a full featured DSLR.
