Default Attempt at part of a Music Video.

    [ame="http://vimeo.com/3410918"]Shake it Off - Maddy on Vimeo[/ame]

Wanted to try doing part of a music video. Shot with the HV20 in CINE mode 24p. Would have shot TV 60i but had very poor indoor light . Captured via firewire with Cineform Codec and edited in CS3 Premier. Color corrected with Magic Bullet. Thanks to Maddy, my girlfriend, for lip syncing.

Song - Shake it Off -Mariah Carey

That was awesome, but you definitely need a 35mm adapter and some different scenes. But that was good lip singing!

Thanks! Yeah I want a 35mm adapter but I need to get some cash first haha. I'm also pretty confused as to which one is the most bang for the buck? Which one would you suggest?

Did you do any backlighting? any fill?

btw whomever suggested it...you don't -need- a dof adapter to get shallow dof. just back up your cam a bit,, ensure it's steady..and zoom in a bit (optically only) just hold it steady! however.. shallow dof is of little value if there's nothing else in the background or foreground to blur. See the OP's 2nd video on vimeo. it's very nice, and it's a nekkid hv.

lighting is crucial here, of course. in the "shake it off" video, your singer's hair has no definition, no lighting....maybe experiment with some basic lighting and see what you come up with! some good zoom stuff in there though.

your AT the park (jack johnson) video is delightful in those scenes with the leaves blurred in the background.. very good footage!

thanks for the feedback! yeah I wasn't even able to light her face properly unfortunately, I had to do that in post. I was only working with the room light and a 100 watt lightbulb. I need to get some proper lightning equipment. :P Yeah I agree with you, her hair doesn't have any definition at all and a fill light would have helped a lot.

I do want a DOF adaptor, agreed this video didn't really call for it too much, but I'm only interested if I can get one if I can match it with a fast lens with 10x manual zoom. :P Any suggestions?

And any suggestions on which adaptor?

..glad you're receptive to feedback awesome.

I have the rng35 and I love it so far...I'm using it with my old canon FD lenses.

I'll put up some stuff one of these days. I'm still learning, myself.

right on, does the rng35 flip the image for you? if not what is your solution for playback on the LCD?

What canon FD lenses do you have?

no..mine doesn't flip. I'm working on an external HD monitoring solution now. It is a real pain shooting with the image flipped in the meantime; that's for sure.

I have the 50mm 1.4 and a 100mm 2.8, which is not really useful. The 50mm's the most useful lens. Even though it's f1.4, I end up stepping it down a little so my whites don't get blown out.

I used a Kipon Fd-EOS mount (with glass) so that I can retain my infinity setting on the canon FD lens.

No of course you don't need a 35mm but omg the fun you can have, and the options that open up in your imagination from having one. I have the Jag35pro and it really helps with drawing the viewers attention to what you want. I don't have the flip hack yet but I am thinking about getting it. (extra 50$)

well the thing is most of the footage I will be doing will be steadycam footage. So as of now I'm very unsure how I would end up doing that with a DOF adapter? I guess I'd have to look at how to put it on my shoulder which would mean an external monitor, I wonder if a portable dvd player would suffice?
