The cool thing is you don't even have to tap your own tripod mounting point.
The flash bracket has a threaded one already for the standard tripod screw found on camcorders...
Remember... REFUSE to spend money and be patient. There is a Sailwind bellows on a certain auction website right now at 26.00 might go a bit higher than I spent but keep looking... they show up all the time.
I saw one awhile back with a buy it now of 24.95 and free shipping.
Those are the deals to snag!
Peace,
Vic
You've just driven up worldwide demand for Sailwind bellows!
Never mind I took a long deep look, I see the Tripod holder screwed under the flash bracket...
I have a Sailwind bellows and they are excellent, excellent build quality:

Here's a lead on drop-in filters if you buy one:

I can't seem to find anywhere to purchase the sailwind bellows.
does anyone have a site that I'm missing?

It's a matter of timing and demand.
I'll be picking up my sailwind on friday!.. this is going to be an interesting project, but yeah, when i shoot, that ought to give it a little bit more respect!
When mounted on a naked HV the Sailwind can't be used fully erect, and to what degree will depend on one's setup. The bellows are quite deep and will vignette.
I used a router to carve a channel into an aluminium 'lens extension holder'; see the link below. Please note that routing aluminium at home is very dangerous!
I took the screw support out, the HV mounts into my diy bracket then that goes onto the 'lens extension holder' and the rail on the bellows sits snugly into the routed channel. The bellows has a rail for extension - cogs, teeth etc - and you wind it fully open, fully closed or anywhere in between.

I have an HV, 43mm UV, 43-55mm step-up, 55-67mm step-up which then screws (onto) the Sailwind bellows. I have to wind the bellows back so there is no vignetting.
I would say that using it with a Raynox would be somewhat foolish, unless you are dressing her for show.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Plus I'll mainly be shooting in the field.
I was considering cinetactics minDV matte blox thing instead of the $150. B&H Raynox + XH-A1 hood combo that everyone uses. The cinetactics has the option to get some filters in front of the WA glass kind of similar to a matte box, and plus the weight on the lens threads shouldn't be as much of an issue with the runnin and gunnin I'll be doing anyways.
I don't really care what it looks like (but really I kinda do...heh heh)
I'll be mainly filming hunts and sportbike freestyle in parking lots. So for my hunts: it will hopefully never be seen! And for stunts: ...um, who cares?LOL
I am getting pinched for time on spring turkey season's opening day here in Kansas on the first of April... also since I have to be smarter with my money these days I was just curious if this wouldv'e ben a good alternative instead of the $130. cinetactics one at this point since I still need to order my raynox as well too.
Anyone use this?

its interesting. it just looks very front heavy, your tripod mount isn't plum with the weight. wont make for smooth tilts.
An ebay seller currently has a number of Sailwinds listed for $25.00 USD ($4.90 shipping), new condition.
Not as inexpensive as some of the DIY solutions found here but not bad compared to the store-bought stuff.
Just search ebay for *sailwind*.
Wintel free since '93.
They're no longer made and have become fairly sought after. $25 is a decent price for one nowadays.
I emailed that guy today and asked if he would consider lowering the price, this is what he said:
"Yes, very interested in what you this this magic price would be,
also interested in the forum as we just recently bought up 30
boxes of sail-wind product from camera world wen they went
out of business an I don't know much about the sail-wind line.
Having said that a previous buyer emailed me with a concern
about this listing I need to double check next week when I back
to work prior to trying to move the rest of them.
Thanks Very Much"
I am wondering if he knocked off a few bux, how many of us would grab one, I definitely would....anyone else?

I think that $30 including shipping is good enough. hell, i'd sell mine for that and its already got the hole pre drilled.

So I wanted to do this, and ordered the Sailwind. Unfortunately I am unable to find a mount for cheap, and I don't own a drill. I know it's really asking a LOT, but does anybody have one that they could modify in this way (as to be able to mount) and sell me? I would pay of course at a higher rate. I really am begging when I ask.
Thanks,
Brandon
That set up looks very neat in a retro kind of way (like someone else mentioned, it makes the HV30 look like a mini film camera.) Here's the question that I have: How the heck do you attach the Sailwind to the HV30? I've seen mentioned adapter rings to Series 8 threads. Is the Series 8 thread just 67mm, or is it a different standard? If it's the same, is it enough to get an adapter ring from 43mm to 52mm and then another from 52mm to 67mm?
To the OP: Nice going, that's an awesome setup that you built for very little money.![]()
