    Default Canon employee discount question

Would anyone like to speculate as to how much a Canon employee discount might be?

They would most likely get it for cost, minus a few % points. I know as a reseller many companies offer cost minus 10-40% on alot of different products.

Ten Ounce, why don't you just post what "cost" is? I don't believe it's breaking any laws...

Well, I couldn't give an exact number, but as a rule of thumb, camcorders typically have a 20-25% markup (this is pretty true for Panasonic and JVC, not so much for Canon and Sony who's margins are a bit slimmer). Assuming the highest markup (25%), that would put the cost of the HV20 at approximately $825 ($1099.99 - 25%). From there, they would most likely save anywhere from 10% to 40% off that price, so possibly somewhere in the low $600's to the high $700's.

Are you planning on going to work for Canon?

Actually, dealer cost is confidential, since it's different for different dealers. Many manufacturers will pull a companies ability to sell their products for disclosing cost prices to the public.

No I'm happily retired. My curiosity got the best of me a couple of days ago when I was visiting the camera section at Samsclub. I listened to a conversation between two customers comparing prices and one said to the other just pick the model number and I can use my Canon employee discount and really save you much more. I guess some perks are better than others, I know I enjoyed mine.
    Thank you

Just for comparison: Apple gives its employees 10% to 15% off depending on the item. Microsoft gives 90% off for software and about 20 to 25% off for hardware.
