Here's a short video where I tried some varying techniques with the MiniDV Steadycam. I have a few shots with dolly-ish movements, some quick running shots, alternating angles, etc. Pretty much all improv stuff, nothing planned.

The intro clips were shot with the Handy35. I used higher shutter speeds with it and was really impressed by the crispness of the picture. Most of the shots with the adapter were at 1/250, but one is at 1/1000. I didn't have the motor speed turned up fast enough for 1/1000 so most of the adapter footage at that speed was unusable due to the grain becoming visible. However, I think I can turn the motor up a bit and actually use that shutter speed with the Handy.

Thanks, the well-lit shots where I used the adapter at 1/1000th shutter were stunningly sharp. However, due to the lower motor speed there were evident swirl-like marks from the spinning grain and the shots were unuseable. I'm going to try and get some more footage soon with the motor cranked up and the shutter at 1/1000 to demonstrate how crisp you can get the footage.

Heh ... those short-shutter swish-pans where the whole world seems to lean into the turn thanks to the rolling shutter actually feel appropriate for the "Crank" look. Combined with the Steadicam fly-bys it really sells the impression of break-neck speed. (And yes, color me surprised that you can get your GG oscillating fast enough not to see static grain at those crazy shutter speeds!)

The adapter is a spinner. I don't think I could get anywhere close to those speeds with a vibrating adapter.

The video is a personal keepsake above all else, like any other video I shoot of my family. 30 seconds of scooter footage just wouldn't have done anything for me. I can understand others wouldn't feel the same way about seeing kids that weren't theirs though. Seeing my kids never gets redundant to me. I'm sure you can relate. Thanks for watching.

Oh yes, absolutely. It's got a 4 cylinder in it with "a" twin turbo. Not to be confused with two separate turbos, sometimes referred to as twin turbos.

Thanks brother! I still have a lot of work with low, fast moving stuff (meaning when I'm running while crouched down). It's a bit too "up and down" if you will. Tough to track dead steady in those circumstances.

That setup isn't stock though. We pulled out the original 2 cycle with a pos. displacement blower and retrofitted for the current powerplant.
