Oh my giddy aunt; you guys!
Would someone just go and buy a cam and send it to jolly already?
Who's got the dough?
Think "NIKE slogan" here FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!

Like I said. I would be happy to help. Read my post. I just want to make sure I have OK from someone in charge.
Hey guys, I have an HV20 that I'd like to sell for around $200. I'm located in Canada as well so it'll be convenient for shipment to jolly since he lives here as well? The FireWire port works but is very sensitive to movement so once you plug the camera in and get it recognized, you can't even slightly move it or it'll disconnect. Also the tape deck works but recording sometimes drops frames and has minor issues. But it is in general working condition which I believe would be perfect for the hack.
I think I'll just close this thread.
There isn't anybody available to take charge here, and poor jolly is left hanging.
It was a good idea though.
If anyone is interested to get things going, they can volunteer to be a moderator in this forum, but I haven't the time, sorry.
See ya.
waverz takes control.
Thanks much.
I am glad to see this thread re-opened and I would like to thank 1 for his work in helping get this project as far as it has. I definitely don't want to "control" anything but I would like to offer my assistance in seeing this project progress. I have been watching this thread since the beginning and even though I won't be doing any software modification myself, it's an honor to officially part of the crew that helps make it happen. The work that Jolly has done so far to me seems pretty amazing, I look forward to seeing what else he can pull off in the future.
I would also like to say that after talking with Jolly via PM, he had mentioned he may not have a lot of time to dedicate to this project. That in mind I think it may be time we start looking for another person to aid Jolly in his efforts. How we go about finding someone with these types of abilities is hard to say right now but if we all pool our resources I think it will be possible.
My idea is to find out from Jolly exactly what kind of knowledge is needed to do this type of work and try and locate these people on other message boards. I KNOW there are plenty of electronics/programming type of people out there that would love to take a stab at a project like this, it's just a matter of finding them.
For now we will just focus on getting the HV20 to Jolly so when he has time, he can experiment.
Hopefully MORE good things will come soon!
I also applaud waverz, but have to correct you on your assumption that I did ANYTHING so far:
- I was against this from the beginning, and only gave in to collect money after some heavy insistence of member _gl.
- I also never believed the HV20/30/40 could be PAL/NTSC hacked (there's a post in here somewhere, where I use the word IMPOSSIBLE.)
- And I haven't done any work on anything.
So far it's all jollyrogerxp, and the goodwill of some very dedicated people on here.
If he said it showed lines, froze and then one day stopped working nobody would jump to the conclusion that someone trying to hack the firmware bricked the camera. They don't go that deep.free shot at what? Flashing a firmware would surely void any warranty.
Post an article to hackaday.com, the hv30 hack would gain attention and there are tons of hackers on there that design their own devices. Plus you have cash. How we go about finding someone with these types of abilities is hard to say right now but if we all pool our resources I think it will be possible.

I know some programming and logic, a little about hacking, I did tow or three little hacks, but maybe I can help.
Count on me.
Hey everyone,
I've been following the hack now for over a year, first time posting.
I have a perfectly working hv20 that I was going to sell on craigslist. No problems whatsoever, but I just wanted post it here first, I'll let it go for a lot cheaper than I would have sold it on craigslist for, and if jolly is in the toronto area, I can deliver it to him within a day or two. I am asking $300.
Let me know!
Thanks
Ric
Already well into the process of sending over my HV20 to Jolly.
Good to hear!
I just thought I'd throw it out there. Good luck guys!
Ric
So I just did the improved LCD Flip Hack and it is working on my Canon HV30! (The menu items are all upside down, but I guess that doesn't really matter much). I was wondering how do we reverse the hack..?
Ok, I just purchased that HV20 from jashan17 and it's being sent to Jolly. The total with Shipping was $225.00
So the total left in the fund is:
Previous total: $521.37
-$225.00
Current Total: $296.37
This amount was sent to waverz paypal.
Thanks guys, it was fun! Good luck!

THANKS sdeming for all the work on this project.
You also need to know that you too played a big part in all this.
Cheers mate
Thank you sdeming for that, and wow , 225 for HV20 is a good deal. Thank you jashan17.
No problem guys. I will be shipping it out to jolly today!![]()
Good work guys! Hopefully things will go smoothly and the HV20 users can reek the benefits of the firmware mod as well.
While Jolly is working on that, the rest of us should be focusing on getting Jolly some help. If anyone knows of any sites or forums related to hacking or things related to it please let me know and I will do my best to try and get some more recruits for this project. Jolly can't do this all on his own so it's up to us to find others to help him continue in his efforts.
HV20 was shipped out today! Should be there sometime next week.![]()
I'm no hacker and don't even know what their natural habitat is to go looking for some, but I would like to second this plea. In the beginning, there was a significant chance that the camera might never be persuaded to give up the necessary secrets and no useful changes could be made. Now that Jolly has 'cracked the code' (or, at least, found the Rosetta Stone) and proven that the firmware can be altered in useful ways, it seems (in my non-hacker-ish opinion) the HV could become a more attractive subject for the camera hacking community to tinker with.
