Sorry Jolly, I was only replying to devinhfox. You are doing a absolutely fantastic job, don't get me wrong. I only wish I were able to help you more, but alas my knowledge of machine code and assembly language ends with the amiga 500 There are a lot of imaginations running wild around here now that you are gaining ground, and very little useful information coming to the fore. So in the interests of 'keeping it real' I just thought I'd chime in with something that might be relevant even at this early stage. Great work again mate! If there's any way I can help, sasve flashing my cam at this stage (I'm a poor musician), let me know!

ohh and btw.. what do you think of maybe trying to dump code from the XH-A1? Did you splice your dumping routines into the firmware upgrade for the HV30? Would it be possible considering there's no publicly available firmware upgrades?

Unfortunately without an updated firmware available it's going to be difficult.
One thing is understanding the code as it is, another is to find for exploits in the code to attack from outside, maybe somehow leveraging the Firewire connection as it is known to have some remote memory access facilities...

Any volunteer with a PAL HV30 willing to risk his/her camera?

Default Is this something you need Jolly?

I am sure we could offer up a camera from the 'fund' money?
Anyone else think this is a good idea to keep this going?

I think we should save the fund money, because I hope and belive that there is someone out there with an HV30 willing to run the firmware.

Atleast we should give it a little time before spending all the fund money. Thats just my 5 cents

I might need a volunteer with a PAL HV30 to flash a custom firmware that I provide; the custom firmware can display the normal value of that byte in a PAL camera and/or dump data from the camera, that would be useful to understand the differences between the PAL and NTSC HV30.

Then he/she could reflash the official firmware on the camera and put it back exactly the way it was before the operation.

Obviously though this would be completely at the volunteer's risk, as even though I have flashed "my" HV30 dozens of times now I cannot 100% guarantee the camera won't brick...

Just potentially sacrifice it. Don't get all melodramatic on us.

Well you could always say it was DOA ... or just stopped working ... it's under warranty.

dont worry, we got money so if anything happpens, we can take care of you, you are merely like our only to get things moving along, and can finally screw the RED cam.

so you're saying that if my cam dies you'll use some of the funds for repair/replacement?

There would definately be enough in the fund for a repair, but not a new PAL HV30. But as the camera is under warranty the repair option should make it free, if not then as mentioned there should definately be enough in the fund for that...

In the event it was bricked you could say that you were trying to update the firmware and the battery died during, which is a very legit reason IMO.

Plus, fill in your warranty card or do it online asap so that it doesn't look suspicious if the worst should happen...
