Very cool.
Would it be possible to hack a 60p mode? Sanyo claims that they have done it on their newest cams:

... but thanks for the reminder, I've added LCD flipping to the wishlist on the 1st post (which is reguarly updated). It also contains details of what we're doing there & the Paypal address for donations.
Yes, that's the target I've set, because it's the one thing everybody wants. Basically the hardest part is figuring out how the firmware works, and how to make successful changes. Once that's done, other mods are not only much easier, but more people can make them.Manual control over Aperture, Shutter Speed and Gain would be the bare minimum I guess?

How is the firmware accessed?
How is the firmware read?
It must be accessed using a computer which means it must use a port: firewire or hdmi.
It could be coupled with pressing certain buttons on the camera or it may just be accessed through software via the port.
What is currently known about this?
Or is it a secret?
By the way, MS and bill are non factors. The only thing they were able to do to minimize piracy was to implement their anti-piracy feature. And hasn't that been defeated?
So other than reporting software piracy so they can come after someone, what can they do?
For instance, it may have been some Russian hackers who hacked the Canon cameras first then the word spread like wildfire. It doesn't matter that they were in Russia. How can Canon or a Bill Gates get to them when they are anonymous anyway.
The problem comes from wanting credit or money for your efforts. Forego this and just publish on the WWW and the cat is out of the bag. What the hell is anyone going to do about it? NOTHING they can do.
Do your thing undaunted.

would it ever be possible to write to the mini SD card instead of tape or is there something that is beyond firmware that would prevent this?
And how about this...for the first two months charge $10 for the hack and give all the money to the winner, then after two months release it for free. Those who don't want to pay would just have to be patient and wait while most likely most members would gladly pay $10 to the hacker. The winner would make much more money this way. And for those who donated already they would get it free right off the bat.

I'm not certain about this but I believe if you charge any money then Canon could step in and sue.

It's that Boogey Man again.
I doubt it.
Let's prove it: Remember the 24p PullDown.exe method? Well, let's all give Farnsworth $1 each. If it weren't for him the HV20 wouldn't have been anywhere near the success it was.
Let Canon sue. Or anyone else for that matter. I just don't think they would actually do it especially since it would be such bad PR.
Besides, is Canon suing CHDK? No. Canon is probably selling 20% more Powershot cameras than they would have were it not for the CHDK hack.
Farnsworth deserves the money, anyway. And it would just prove to our HV20 hackers that we will be most appreciative and will come through. Let's give Farnsworth a big bag of cash! Just $1 each will do it.
Someone set it up or just give us a mailing address. I'll send him one big fat buck in cash, pronto!

Hello, every body. I am new on the forum. I have a HV30. Is the hack aperture is now aviable for it?
Best regards all.
Hi Floris, welcome! I'd encourage you to read back in the thread (you'll find most of your answers in the first post)
But, no the HV20/30 has not yet been hacked, you should consider donating to the cause![]()
Just a reminder that as I originally promised, I'd donate if and when the hack is done before Canon releases an HVxx that doesn't require the hack. They may be getting close so I'd hurry up the hackingor all those funds may go to a HV50 launch party instead.
ok...thanks for the uhh. yeah.
Hello
Yes I will donate. Do you think the hack will be ready soonly?
Best regards all.
Umm, have you seen the stuff they want to do? It is not simple changes, it is adding functionality which will require modifying the GUI and controls, adding menus, etc.
I think this hack lacks some direction and organization that would be required to have a timely release schedule, namely a baseline.
meanwhile the collected funds are not earning interest. Humnn.
Sorry for the lack of updates guys, I am stuck without a camera to work on.
There are a few things we can try but unfortunately without a HV30 camera directly usable to experiment with it's going to be very slow for me to progress...

Well, that's understandable.
Thanks to member IrvB for a very generous donation to the cause.![]()

So Irv not only designs the ring, holds the price down to nothing instead of raping people like large companies would do - but then to top it off he makes a generous donation to the hack fund?!!
I think we maybe elected the wrong guy president!![]()

I understand some payments not being accepted for small amounts if the balance is not already in the transferers account (due to fees incurred), but if you allow payments over $10USD you'd have another $100USD...
Or am I missing something?
p.s. Glad my donation was received.
