Just a beginner
Hi. I have a brand new HV20 and I use a macintosh (I have two... a macbook pro and an iMac.) Can someone tell me the basics of getting video into my machines...down to which cables to use? I thought it was firewire, but there is no firewire out on the camera is there? By the way, I do have iMovie '08 installed, but everyone seems to say the previous version, iMovieHD was much better.
All help would be appreciated...thanks very much

Slightly insidious, but mostly harmless
Welcome parogers.
Have you read the manual yet?.There is a firewire out of the HV-20. All you have to do is find it!.

Maybe I'm not too bright...
All I see is a USB terminal, and an "HDV/DV terminal which they refer to as IEEE1394. Is there something else? In other words, do I need a special cable which is one thing on one end, and firewire on the other (the computer) end?

IEEE 1394 is Firewire and, Yes...you'll need to buy a Firewire (IEEE 1394) Cable.

Wait, shouldn't any regular camcorder firewire work?

Yes, a regular inexpensive firewire cable will work as long as it has (here comes the technical terms
the little firewire connector on one end and the regular sized end that plugs into your Mac's port.
The firewire out is on the cam, it is just a smaller port than you were looking expecting.
