I've used Celtx a long time. There are a couple little things it accesses the net for, but it doesn't have to do it.
a) If you want to have your script in a PDF file, to protect it, send it off for WGA registration, etc. it accesses the web site to do PDF formatting. Regular formating is fine without it. (However you can get a minor discrepency in the page count between PDF and Celtx file format of one page.)
b) It accesses some minor ads, like announcements of writing contests, etc. If there is no internet access the program doesn't crash, you just don't receive the announcement.
c) Forums. If you want to get critique of your work you can put a sample on the forum and get comments.
Other than that it seems to all be on your computer.

I haven't logged on to celtix yet but I love it. I wish i could put it on my computer at work but I'm sure my boss would love it when I stop working and sit at my comptuer writing my screenplay and not working.
I've always used Final Draft in the past, but this program seems to have more potential to multi-task - and its free. I'm downloading it right now.
I am a film student and our department uses Final Draft. After looking into purchasing Final Draft for a screenwriting class, I discovered Celtx.
If you've written or read screenplays, you realize how much formatting time is saved by using one of these programs. Plus you can easily export to PDF, allowing pretty much anyone to view your screenplay. I also can't believe Celtx is free while Final Draft is over $100, even with my student discount.
I wrote and directed a short last semester and I got around to using some of the other preproduction tools, such as scheduling and storyboarding, furthering my appreciation for Celtx. It kept me feeling professional and organized, even if I was in over my head at times
Check out the tutorials on their website, it really opened my eyes to the usefulness and depth of the program.

So it looks like they are going to start charging for their online hosting and colab services. They changed to a new service and it says on the site that it will be in free beta form through the end of march.

50 bucks for the year if you use their online feature, Celtx Studio. Seems totally worth it if you're collaborating with multiple people. These guys are doing an awesome job!
I just discovered Celtix a week or so ago and love it. I'm looking forward to using it online with a friend for collaboration on a web animation series.
Open source FTW!
They make money from people that need the online collaborative workflow. Most projects are collaborative, so $50/year isn't really bad at all.
Scripting program
Wow, looks like a really cool scripting program. I used to write with Mindstar's Cinergy, but when i moved to Vista x64, it wasn't supported anymore...but thanks, it will be usefull (more reliable/effective than doing it with MS Word)
i've used this for a couple of years now, transferred from final draft because this is all in one. they've recently updated it but now the collaboration is not free where it used to be.
i use a program called Xmind to help me design my characters. It's brainstorming software, again open source. Really useful. Has anyone heard of it?

I'm surprised that there are still people not using it.
As I said previously, I've been using Word with tabulations in the very beginning, but since I've used Cinergy Script Editor and now Celtx, especially since there's a portable version so it's always on my USB stick.
