Default Trouble Getting HV30 Recognized on Macbook Pro

I just bought an HV30, I own a new Macbook Pro, 4G Ram, 2.8ghz, fast, new computer.

I installed the Digital Video Solutions disk and the three programs are now on my dock, "image browser", "Camera Window", "EOS Utility"

    I connect the HV30 with a 9pin to 4 pin firewire.

I get a "no camera detected" message. I have reinstalled the software.

iMovie detects the camera and I can see an image with it.

I have tried switching to DV mode, still no recognition by the Canon Software.

Granted, I don't have an SD card or tape in the camera yet, but that's because I just got the camera yesterday, but would that be relevant to the software even detecting the thing?

    Thanks for your help

    Default Already tried

I've followed those instructions down to reseting the camera.

The play mode even shows that the firewire is connected.

Also, what HDV tapes are good with the HV30?

    Default mistake

the firewire shows in the camera's viewfinder, not on the installed software on my computer. Please help?!!

Is it necessary to even use this software, if I have final cut pro?

And what do I do about image downloads?

I would advise against using the Canon software. Use iMovie if that's the only editing software you have, and iPhoto will launch if you are trying to import still images from the HV30 via USB.

Oh yeah, what Gymnut808 wrote. I just read the title, which is COMPLETELY misleading.

The Macbook Pro IS recognizing your cam, the Canon software apparently isn't (whatever that means).

Use IMovie or FCP to capture the video, and use an external card reader to download the stills.

    You have no problems.

    Default Thank you

Thanks for the info. To the last poster. I agree that my title was less specific than it could be. Was it completly misleading? I think that's a bit of an exaggeration. Completly misleading would be: my HV30 turned into a 12 headed serpent!

Okay, maybe, I'll concede to "completely misleading" being a bit of an exaggeration.

    "Completely" might of been: 小山羊不滑雪,当讲斯瓦希里语时。

I guess we can close this thread then.

Let us know how the cam works out for you.
