    Unhappy Software options

    Hi,
before anyone tells me my thread is annoying or not relevant because its already been covered or i should do more reading on existing threads...I have already!
OK, i'm a beginner, so pls don't be rude...
I jus bought an HV30. Now, i've had advice from Canon that Ulead Pro X 2 is good to use, and on this forum i see many seem to opt for Premier Pro (Adobe?), or Sony Vegas...
I've also looked up other software options, including Final Cut Pro, Pinnacle Studo Ultimate..
So how in the hell am i to choose from all these options when i know very little about them...i figure the best way is to talk to ppl who are out there doing it..which is you folks, and the reason i joined te forum is 2 talk 2 those who know stuff, and to be able to help others a s i too gain some experience.
So if any one can be bothered goving me some pointers, i'd be really grateful!
    Thanks,
    Shelly

I use Premiere and am 100% happy with it. I totally recommend it, along with After Effects.

If you want complete drag n drop less poweful, but easier to use, solution, go for the latest ulead (make sure it's the version that supports HD).
If you want to spend more time to learn the application but have much power over it, go for Sony Vegas Platinum 9.

Hi Shelly, for me software can be roughly divided into two camps: consumer and pro.

Now some consumer software can be powerful and some pro terrible to learn properly.

Essentially you need to think about your commitment, how much you can invest and what type of projects you may want to make.

In essence 'consumer' software often dictates what can be done - through automation - with limitations on transitions, titles, amount of tracks, templates etc. Whereas with 'pro' software you should be able to do whatever you like; it's just a question of learning how.

I run Vegas Pro 8.1 on Vista Ultimate 64-bit through Bootcamp on a Macbook Pro 17" and it's great; Vegas Pro is more program than I'll ever need.

Once you've done your first successful edit - and you understand more about your non-linear editor - a good program will encourage you do get more ambitious and make slicker projects. Whereas something too limiting will be frustrating.

A distinction can also be made between home video and the low-level commercial work that some of us here do.

To all Newbies: Have you read this FAQ before posting? Or watched this short video?
If you haven't, then don't complain when I close or move your thread.
