Thank you Sir... I make it my point to entertain whenever I can.

This one got a bit sideways. I don't do well with critics, they push my buttons so they got me, hit my achilles heel...but then again "there will never be a statue of a critic!"

My only regret... I wasn't able to continue the entertainment... I had some incredible plot twists planned!

The whole idea was to entertain and keep people thinking about the HV20 and HV30, I guess I can forget getting my commission check from Canon

    Okay, carry on!

    Hey David,

Glad I was able to entertain! The whole point was to raise awareness and hopefully get people thinking about different ways to hack the firmware.

    Which I believe is hackable.

In any case, take it easy...

Yup, SoCal. That part is legit.

Shooting with a HV30 in Dec. Jan. No budget thriller... I didn't write it and I am not directing so all bets are off! I'm shooting it for the writer/director as a favor.

If it gets as many views as this thread (8,000 and counting) then maybe the Writer/Director will get to make another film.

I will keep the forum posted on how a naked HV30 performs on a feature.

Okay, gotta to do some real work.

    Lates!

[seriousness]Wow, this is a first for me. I never imagined that after the scam attempt got busted wide open, he would actually come back and still try to play the whole thing off again. WOW. It's like the twilight zone. Someone needs to immortalize this thread in a Wikipedia article.[/seriousness]

So anyways, I have some great things planned for the thread! Might take 'til the weekend to post them. I'm glad it didn't stay locked!

    Craig,

Kudos to you for smelling a rat up front... but there was never any intention to scam anyone out of their hard earned cash. We all just want a manual HV20 or HV30 without the dance.

The more WE visualize it and talk about it, the closer it gets to becoming an actual reality.

The firmware will get hacked. But by then there will be other cams.

Amazon has the HV30 right now at $599 which is mindblowing.

    Technology moves fast.

    Peace,
    Vic

So you had to go at 6:46pm EST because you had some real work to do. Then you were back replying to this thread at 7:02pm EST? You work fast, brother!

C'mon Vic, we didn't just fall off the turnip truck last night. The fact is, nobody would have done what you did to "motivate people about the hack." It doesn't make sense. When exactly were you going to spill the beans? Why did you persist with your multiple personalities even after being called out? Why the elaborate transcription? Anyone with an education in sociology should understand that this does not make sense to meet the end that you now claim you were trying to meet. I accept the fact that no one will ever know what your grand plan was *exactly* but it doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out that you were illegitimately after the hack jackpot. Sorry, but that can be read like a neon sign.

    Craig,

Nope, sadly you are wrong this one time, possibly the only time in your life.

I had some great material planned that would have hopefully dragged out this "performance art" long enough that some legit hacker would have gotten jealous enough to put the work in and steal victory before "filmwonder" stole the firmware from Victor. That was my motive... and of course to entertain.

Craig, those were my honest motives.

It is human nature to want to beat somebody to the punch line, the answer, etc., I was hoping in this case it would have been to the hack.

I was hoping to motivate somebody to beat "filmwonder" to it...

Now I really have to do some work!

Vic, can I repeat that we didn't just fall off the turnip truck last night? Your acts were a very elaborate deception. Anyone who had the motives you claim would have come clean after the first time someone called BS. You perpetuated long after that. People deceive others in that fashion in order to serve their own self-interests, not to do what you are now claiming. This is human nature 101.

You know what I did to try and help the hack come to fruition? I contacted a pal of mine that I know from another forum named Armin Heinrich. He's successfully modified the firmware of numerous audio devices including ZOOM recorders, Line 6 amplifiers, and others and I asked him if he'd be willing to work on the HV hack. Unfortunately, he respectfully declined. Any rate, THAT is what normal people do who are trying to help. Deceiving people would not get the reaction you speak of. It's widely known that CHDK is working on this hack. Any "competitive" hackers that were worried about glory would have already gotten this done by now if they existed.

I guess you do not have that sociology degree or else you would be more familiar with the use of deception in social environments as well as its effects.

    You're a liar.
    • You were a liar when you originally posted as filmwonder.
    • You were a liar when you posted as Bob Rossi.
    • You were a liar when you pretended that Bob Rossi and filmwonder were two different people.
    • You were a liar when you said (as Bob Rossi) that you were going to donate $50 to the fund to get Vic Olam's hack
    • You were a liar when you (as Bob Rossi) came back to "come clean" and confess that Bob and filmwonder were one and the same, but that neither of you even knew Vic Olam.
    • You were a liar when you posted as Victor Olam and claimed you hadn't been posting as Bob Rossi and filmwonder.
    • You were a liar when you created a new account and tried to write in a different style about how your 'mates' had gotten out of hand.
    • And you're a liar now, once again trying to cover your tracks.

You did your best to cover your tracks time and time again, but you failed time and time again.
    • You failed when you tried to photochop a photo of the camera's LCD
    • You failed when you tried to write a realistic 'recorded' conversation.
    • You failed when you deleted all of filmwonder's posts to hide your tracks.
    • You failed when you tried to repost your signature blunder with the correct signature.
    • You failed when you deleted all of Bob Rossi's posts to try and hide your tracks.
    • You failed when you went back and deleted all of Vic Olam's posts to hide your tracks.
    • You failed when you went to your website and deleted index2.html

There is only one explanation for what you were doing and it's not your first excuse nor your second. The minute you included Bob Rossi's claim that he was going to donate money to get the secret hack from Vic Olam, it was painfully clear. You were here to scam people out of their money and I, for one, am shocked that you're even allowed to post here anymore.

Well, we can agree to disagree.

But I am telling you the truth. And since when does anyone have to think logically in this world?

You must not be a fan of performance art, Hunter Thompson or Andy Kaufman or the like.

No worries... I won't hate you for it.

    Peace,
    Vic

One thing you're failing to realize is that successful innovation REQUIRES logic. Logic is not the equivalent of status quo.

    Hey yall,
What the fcuk is going on in here? This reminds me of the time I did something similar and got quietly "busted" here. But I was just trying to piss of Kyser.......
I appreciated the moderators very delicate handling of that situation, but hell, I'll out myself on that one cause I was being a retard....
I don't know how I missed this entire thread until now, but that dialog was like the worst , most fake conversation I've ever seen written in my entire life, and possibly my 4 or 5 previous lives. It played out like Scoobie Doo. " I would have gotten away with it if you darn kids hadn't been snooping around"

Man, this is the best thread ever on this forum. Do you really think they were going for the money for the Hack? How would they get it unless they proved the hack worked first? I think they just wanted to screw with the board. Or, he / wanted to screw with the board. Attention is the biggest motivator for some people. I doubt it was the money. That would have been really hard for him to secure without die-hard proof of the hack...
Sorry CWildenradt, I don't think he was trying to rip anybody off, just play a sick game.....

One thing entertaining about reading this After the fact, is that I knew the whole thing was a scam and followed it from the first posts seeing peoples hopes turn into anger, or suspicion, then laughter. I tried to put myself in the shoes of everybody and it seems to me like CWildencradt knew too early that it was a scam. I'm just sayin......
