Hate to be the one to tell you this, Vic, but a higher pixel count will make things worse not better. Now the zoom would be a better mod, can you get it to X200 optical?

The 10 megapixel sensor is actually a larger chip...

Each individual photosite significantly larger than stock.

    Better low light too.

    Vic

p.s. Had to do do some mods to the back of the stock zoom too... to get it to cover the larger chip!

Hmmm... yeah, that too. But what does that have to do with the price of grey market DALSA CMOS chips?

You want the Official Firmware Hacking Thread (see 1st post for a summary & latest updates).

Some are wondering about the black gaffers tape.

Well that covers up the surgery I did on this beast.

Removed the stock CMOS and dropped in a 10 megapixel chip.

Sped up the tape drive to handle a DVCPRO HD bitrate too!

And other top secret mods under the hood

    Rock on!

    Peace,
    Vic
Ironically, despite having more than enough pictures of adapting the bellows and such to your camera, you have no pictures of this mod. Any particular reason why that is?

I don't engage in activities I hate... life is too short... I love the HV20 forum and everybody that posts here... if you're going to try and stir up trouble, at least do it by trying to motivate everyone into hacking this little beast cam into all it can be!

And CWildenradt (in my opinion) is a great guy. And a talented filmmaker too.

    Peace,

Hi everyone, my name is David Gilmour and I just wanted to let you know that I know a guy who figured out how to hack the firmware using pickups from a 72 strat. Apparently you use the coiled copper wires from the pickups and run those directly to the firmware... oh damn, wrong forum!

I am also a little afraid on the camera and not knowing what to do with it in regards to manual settings so buying one would let me play with it and get it down before the shoot.

I also just plain want one... any thoughts.

Love the forum. Been reading it for awhile and finally decided to post!

it is a great thread...I will read every input in due time.

Just to say thanks to two the very key people here.
