So I got the XH-A1 lens hood from Canon as recommended in this thread. Yay! Have been working on the fit. I really would like to be able to remove the hood when necessary and so have not yet resorted to the double-sided tape. The "Magic Wrap" some folks have referred to... is non-existent in my Lowe's. Does anyone know if "Magic Wrap" would be akin to something like "Rescue Tape? http://www.rescuetape.com/ Or some other self-fusing tape?

I found that my one slides onto the back of the Raynox and then it's simple to screw it in place. In essence you place the hood loosely over the camera front, then screw the lens into place and then pull the hood over and onto it with a perfect fit!
That is the beauty of the Raynox, I suppose. I have the Canon WD-43 which requires a little DIY to make the hood fit. Thanks for responding, though.
And so to return with my findings: The "Rescue Tape" worked great. I stretched it twice around as per the "Magic Wrap" instructions and the XH-A1 lens hood fits nicely. I can also remove it when necessary. The "Rescue Tape" is a silicon self-fusing tape which I assume (but don't really know) is similar to how "Magic Wrap" works. There is no adhesive sticking to the lens hood or the WD-H43... the stuff bonds to itself.
I really appreciate, Lunchbox, your discovering (oh so long ago now before I came along) this lens hood! This is one of several recommendations I found here that have covered my basic camera needs.
Thank you.

Hello everyone,
I'm a Sony HDR-XR150 user (please don't hit me!), and I'm very interested of buying both the Raynox 6600 and the XH-A1 hood.
I've read the all thread, but I noticed some contradictory comments regarding the use of "DIY" stuff. Some say that I'd need double tape or "magic wrap", and some say that if I mount the lens hood from behind the lens, I won't need any tape, so I'd just wanna be sure about this before order one. Otherwise, I'll probably go with the Cavision LH77.
The XR150 has a 30mm filter diameter and I wanna buy some filters, so basically my plan would be (from camcorder to lens hood):
- 30mm to 37mm Step Up Ring Filter Adapter
- 37mm Lens set UV+PL+FD FDL multi coated filter kit
- 37mm to 55mm Step Up Ring Filter Adapter
- Raynox HD-6600 PRO 55mm
- XH-A1 lens hood, or LH77 if you confirm that I'll need tape by using the XH-A1 for sure.
What do you think?
Thanks!!![]()
Hello? Is there still somebody in here?
Thanks!
Just got my XH-A1 hood in the mail from Lunchbox/LA Color Shop, and I love it! It fit perfectly on my Raynox 6600 WA lens by hanging it loosely on the camera first, screwing in the WA lens, and then I slipped the hood over the WA lens as far as I carefully good, then tightened it down slightly with the little tightening knob built into the hood. Fits perfectly. No tape or magic wrap. Just thought I'd give my two cents.
For people from europ who still want the XH-A1 lens hood, you can order it from http://www.prowebstore.nl/webshop. I just got mine today. I paid about 25 euro incl. shipping. You can only pay with bank transfer. It took about a week to get here.
And I must say, it fits very nice on my Raynox HD 6600 lens![]()
Any word on the pedal style hood as an alternative? I saw one post saying there was vignetting and one that said there wasn't.
How well does it keep light off the lens?
LOL - I wouldn't want a foot in my lens...
har har. I've seen it referred to as a petal, pedal, tulip and flower hood. Whatever it's called, anyone have any info on using it with the 6600?
Where can I buy the XH-a1 hood?
I have a cannon M300 which is 37mm. So I am going to buy a step up ring 37mm to 55mm to mount the raynox-6600 55mm lens. Do I need another step up ring to mount the hx-a1 hood to the raynox-6600 55mm lens? Do I need a 55 to 72mm step up ring?

You can contact Canon parts department to order the lens hood. Or you can buy from me.

How far back are people putting their XH-A1 hoods on their Raynox wide angles? I had mine sitting snugly on the edge, right at the rubber grip part, but not on top of it. I ended up being able to see the hood in the bottom corners of the frame (but I couldn't notice it while filming, only until I captured). Not sure why it didn't capture the top, but I'm not complaining.

Haha, wow, I didn't even think of slipping it on that way! I'll give it a try. Thanks!
EDIT: I tested it out, and that indeed was the fix I needed. Works perfectly now, and it's a lot more secure on the lens.

Yes, you can. If you set it up the way darthpaully suggested to me a few posts up, it leaves the front threads easily available for filters and the lens cap.
Canon Australia wanted around $50 for the XH-A1 Hood! So I just built one myself from an old case fan part.
