Very nice, better than my DIY 77mm robber hood solution (tho it works). Where can you get this hood seperately from the camera? Is there a part number stamped on it that we can call Canon spares and ask about?

Also, whats the name of the handle you've got, would like to get one like it.

    Thanks

    Rikki,

Yeah, I really like the hood. It's a little DIY but it looks nice. I don't see a part number but I'm sure you can order it from Canon. It's the lens hood comes with XH-A1 or XH-G1.

The bracket mount is from Samy's camera for $29. It's a chain store only in Southern California. Their web site is Samys.com. If you want, I can help you buy one. I don't mind helping you to buy one if you want. You just need to pay me back the money + shipping. I'm not going to make any profit out of it.

Here's a thread showing how I mount 2 lights to the bracket.

Hi Taky, I'll have a look around on ebay in the UK and see if I can find something similar (looking for a top handle so I can do low sweeps) but if there is nothing to hand I'd love to take you up on your offer of help.

Well, the manual already said if using the WD-H43, should set the auto-focus mode to Normal. IAF won't work if the wide angle lens is attached.

I attached the H72 hood to the A1. It looks good.

Tongue in cheek...thats what J/K means

    Now the big question:
Have you taken the H72 off your a1 rig?
I can’t seem to get my mind around pulling it off my g1..Lol..."why remove it, it should be there."

I just received the WD-H72 few days ago. I will be using it from now on. I have the WD-43H for GL2 and never remove it. Well, one time my GL2 zoom stuck at the max zoom in level, I have to take the WA lens off ... sad

You can get XH-A1 hoods from Canon Parts Dept. for $17.91 each plus tax and $6 shipping. Part no. D52-0320. I have two on the way, one for the wide angle and one for the telephoto adapter. Thanks Taky!

    Tacky~

How do you keep your hood on.

Mine is loose and I am trying to find the best solution.

So far, everything is just ok and not quite "great." yet.

I use those thick doubleside tape. Do you see a white ring around the lens in my photos above?

I later on changed it to some heavy duty double side tape. You can buy them at Office Depot or Home Depot. They are grey in color with a red tape on top. Those are very stable. It sticked a lot tighter.

So far this Lens hoods is working great for me.

you guys, make sure you realize the lens hood doesn't have a thread to mount on top of the WA lens. I use a double-sided tape to put on it. So don't get disappointed if the hood doesn't fit like you expecting from other threaded lends hood. Don't blame me

Default lens hood for wide angle lens

So, Taky, the lens hood you have for your WD-H43 does not have threads also as well as the lens itself does not have threads.

I bought Raynox HD6600pro-52 which has theads (72mmm) and it's on the way anytime soon. Do you know any lens hood similar to yours that can go on my WA lens, it would be nice if it has threads and fits so I can take on and off easily? I like the rectagular shape that you have. Round ones are easy to find on Ebay (see photo-xpress on Ebay, they have both plastic and aluminum and decent price) and I heard about inner, outer, etc. diameter, do I get 72mm lens hood for mine WA or larger like 75mm or 77mm. Do you know? much appreciated.

Also, one last question about white balance lens hoods, I saw one from Photo-xpress mentioned above, deos it work? and how you use it. Thanks again.

Nice find. Actually The Lee Wide-angle bellows hood has in ID of 85mm. Perfect for the WD-H43. They show up on ebay now and then

I have the hood that Taky has (I have the camera), I will try it on the Ranox to see if it will fit. I need to drink my coffee and go down to my Man Cave to get it.

If the A1's hood fits on the Raynox, I'll call up Canon and order that piece of plastic, looks a lot better (more professional) than the Tulip-shaped hoods intended for still camera lenses. I didn'd find any info about spare parts service in Germany (yet).

I just tested and the A1's hood fits perfectly on my Raynox. So perfectly that no tape or anything is needed to secure it. The outside of the raynox has those bumpy grippy things and it holds the hood tightly.

It was a bit of a push to get it on. It did take a bit of pressure to get it off though. If you wanted a slighltly looser fit you could lightly sand the bayonet mounting slightly but I think I will leave it on since I also bought the wide angle for the XH-A1 and won't be able to use this hood anyway.
