I thought you become a mod once you get 1000 posts... I think thats what happened to Dylan

Simply because Mods seem to pop up from nowhere throwing their weight around. NOT ALL, but some. This is a site that I really believe in because the HV20 has the power to get kids interested in Video Production. The camera is just so good for its price.
Your a bloody STAR Koolpenguin!
Here in London we're having a lot of trouble with teenage knife crime. a site like this (because of the affordability of the HV20 and its High quality) really can make a difference to help to get the kids interested in something creative and constructive but not if we slay them with the 'SEARCH, RTFM' stuff.
They need to be nurtured and guided into learning for themselves.
Somebody once posted here that these newbies dont know what to search for, the terminology, why not help them with the terminology?
So why do I ask?.....Why not?

My own very small contribution has been editing and re-editing my post in the Glossary thread (which, if I may be so bold, perhaps warrants "sticky" status for easy finding) ...![]()
I thought that might be the reason, and this little tidbit "I'm specifically interested in how you selected your first Mods back in the early days" was NOT really relevant at all.
Early mods aren't "popping up from nowhere" and aren't throwing their weight around.
I assume you will now say that the above quote IS relevant as you wanted to know, not how I selected the early mods but how that might differ from the newer ones, IF there is a difference.
To be honest, I spent more time replying to you in this thread regarding this subject than it took to decide on mods....
Neat to think we are supplying a good "hang-out" for some youths that otherwise might be getting in trouble. Thanks for that comment.
Good stuff...
Nice Erik & 1!
I'm sure this will help me sleep easy with the Mod tonight.

I'm coming into this argument a bit late but I agree with Veg. Moderators must surely be there to control unacceptable and unnecessary threads NOT to add editorial censure to the Posts.
Moderators should be totally neutral regarding legitimate content and should not use their powers to censure posts unless, of course, they may genuinely offend the majority of the Forum.
I would like to see some more International based moderators. There is a gulf between USA thinking and the rest of the world especially in areas like humour. I think a more global moderation would benefit the Forum.
That would only work, if that person has English as his/her native tongue. I do not and because of that I sometimes miss the fine aspects of an argument.
May I make another suggestion. Not specificaly on this case, but for future events. If a mod comes into a narrow space, because he gets entangled in an argument, that mod may invite another mod to take a decision.
....and also...
and i know this has been discussed here before but I cant remember the outcome....why not make newbies wait three weeks before being allowed to post but still have access to all the knowledge here, a la Chris Hurd at DVInfo?
Thus, presumably, encouraging them to search.
Veg.
Me too. In fact, I tried this over and over again.Originally Posted by Terfyn

All-in-all, there is a conscience effort to not make this solely a USA forum...BUT IT'S NOT EASY!!!!
Also, the 3 weeks wait-until-posting: maybe. Not sure. Not really keen on the idea.
Also, it wouldn't stop the spammers either, as they are now even clever enough to wait before posting sometimes.
