    Default how to get 720p

Can anyone help me here. I was asked recently by someone if my hv20 shoots 720p, i am not sure, i think it shoots 1080 or 25p (australian version) so how do i get to edit in 720p and output in 720p. I am so confused.
    p.s. i use fcp2

The HV20 and HV30 record naively in 1080i. (that is to say: 1080 at a rate of 50 fields per second in your case) If you use progressive mode you can get 25p @ 1080 (it's wrapped in a 2:2 pulldown though) It can not record naively at 720. But really, there would be no point. You can always just scale down the output.

    So...

If you want 720 output all you would need to do is just scale the final render out of Final Cut down to 720.

PAL HV20/30 is a 1080i50 and 1080p25. It won't do 720p. Like LordTangent said, you will need to down size to 720p during export.

To get 720p25, shoot 1080p25 (HDV 25pf) and simple resize.

To get 720p50, shoot 1080i50 (HDV), bob-deinterlace and resize. The quality of the deinterlacer matters.

You'll get far better 720p footage this way than you would from most native 720p cameras.

    Cheers,
    David.

Just edit in 1080i and export your final rendering to 1280x720. That's how I usually do it. I don't bother going to 720 first. I usually go to 720 in After Effects and everything looks great.

Does the HV30 shoot less naively than the HV20?

720p50 - does that mean it will make it 50 frames per second, and when you play it back at 25 fps it will look smooth and be in slow motion?
which deinterlacer would you recommend? The inbuilt one in final cut?
