Lightbulb Video capture/compression with Archos Player

I recently received some Archos 604 players to stock for my website, along with the DVR Station and had an interesting idea. Since the Archos DVR Station can act as a recorder, I wondered if I could use it to capture video directly from my HV20 and compress it for internet delivery (Youtube, Myspace, etc). Here's how it all worked out and turned out.

    1. Because the DVR Station only has a regular RCA hookup in the back, I had to break out the old RCA cables from the box. Hookup was just as if you were connecting it to a television. Here's a pic of the back of the DVR station with cables attached.

    2. With the Archos and camcorder in place, I turned on the recorder feature on the recorder and play on the camcorder. Not sure if you can see it well on this picture, but it plays back in real time on the recorder which was pretty cool.

    3. I recorded a very short clip. It was 45 seconds long and once compressed it shrunk it down to a 9.10MB AVI file. For youtube and web delivery I think it was pretty good, but definitely not for full screen view. Here is a link to the file that was created.
