Arrow Question about 35mm (DIY) DOF Adapter

Ok, first let me say I'm new to filming but I do have some basic knowledge about photography like what focus is and how to manipulate a picture with 'playing' with the focus. (Like blurry background).

I recently bought the HV20, European PAL version. (Live in Holland / The Netherlands).
I want to use it to make some sample footage to experiment with cam and editing software. The main usage will be making short interview-like movies to publish on internet/YouTube, and making docu's about interesting events around my location. (like making a short movie / docu / interview from a local musical outdoor event)

    Now my real question!
I have read the 'big' topic about a Do-It-Yourself DOF Adapter.
Ok, I understand the benefit of the 35mm DOF adapter for the use of standard 35mm photolenses on the HV20. Also to manipulate the focusing etc.

But now there's one thing I don't get -YET-...
    There is a VIBRATING adapter.
What is the vibrating thing used for? What exactly does it; whats the benefit of it?
What is the main reason to use such adapter? Where do you use it for? (Meaning people who own and use one; for what kind of footage do you use it for?)

Maybe a (to) long story for a small question, but I'm really curious about this whole film making and dying to learn more and get myself more experienced with it...

The short answer for that is simple. So your video doesn't look like crap.

    Ok the longer answer:

All 35mm adapters have one thing in common they focus on a "screen" meaning you are shooting an image that is traveling through your 35mm lens and being displayed on this screen. Now this screen, which could be anything from wax to a frosted cd as you may have seen on that thread, has a problem with getting dirt and dust and small hairs etc on it. The vibratration or spinning or whatever you have in your adapter keeps that dusty dirty screen moving making it harder for your camera to see anything but an image.

    hope that helped

P.S. I am currently making a 35 dof myself, I'm curious as to which style everyone is going with. I chose the spinning cd model, looks to be a good fit into a rig that I plan on building later. Here is what I hope to make it look like. http://prolost.blogspot.com/search?q=the+rig
