    Default Other forums?

I dont mean to step on anyones toes but I am new to the online world of video communities and was wondering what other forums you guys would recommend for technical discussion?

You see, I posted two threads in here already, here and here, and while they have gotten over 100 views, Ive gotten not one answer.

Im not leaving here or anything but I guess my questions dont belong here or are of the wrong type or whatever, I am not sure, so I was wondering if you guys can recommend other forums where they may be answered?

Also any specific resources/sites/forum for music video production?

    Thanks guys.

    2 things:

    1) we DON'T allow you to post the same question multiple times

    2) You need to describe your question in the subject/title of the thread; "Need some advice please" is not a good way to describe your question.

Please come up with a better title, and I'll change it for you.
I'll go ahead now and delete the second, identical thread.

No need to search for other forums [not that there's anything wrong with that!] - just put the crux of your question in the title, and you'll get answers.

You mean a title like "need some help with this project... (slow motion and music film clip)"? Something like that? Well that is what the first thread was and I couldn't get a reply.

Sorry for posting a duplicate, but because that descriptively titled thread got no answers I assumed I posted it in the wrong forum so I tried again.

    Maratiam; thank you!

Did you consider that maybe no one had any help to offer? This is basically an enthusiasts forum. Although there are a number of professionals who are regulars, most of us have limited expertise. We help where we can. Your other post had close to 60 reads when you started this one, so it wasn't being ignored. Never assume that any question will get immediate response or any, for that matter. Unless you're a noob who doesn't do a search first. In that case you'll get my prompt, undivided attention.
To all Newbies: Have you read this FAQ before posting? Or watched this short video?
If you haven't, then don't complain when I close or move your thread.

Hmm. It has been a little bit slow here lately (in general), or maybe it just seems that way. Anybody?

I did consider that. Like I said I dont want to step on any toes or offend anyone because I love this place. But I did consider that maybe no one had any help because this was an "enthusiasts forum" which is exactly why I made this thread asking for people to recommend other forums to me that may have more answers.

No offense taken. Just don't get too upset when one of us nasty mods does what he/she thinks is right with a post or thread. We're evil, but with just a touch of humor. Warped humor, of course.

For technical help, www.muvipix.com is in my experience second to none. For an annual membership fee that is currently $49.95, the site offers members all sorts of great material, including DVD BGs, music, and a whole lot more, including unlimited personal help and advice.

See? That's what I thought we could build here, even if only for premium paying members. The fact is the HV20/30 is not going to be around forever and this forum will at some point outlive it's usefulness.

But if it were a library of sorts with clips, cg, music, etc. all donated by the members it would have more permanence.

Anybody who uploads a certain meg/gig amount might get a reduction in membership or something. It would be to the benefit of us all.

I live in St.Louis and have great generic shots and pans of the Gateway Arch, river paddle wheel boat and other landmarks. Other members have footage of their unique experiences. I'm not saying post whole videos but just useful clips, cutaways even stills for free, open use by other paid members.

    JM2C, FWIW.

    Waddaya' think Mal?

Whoa there, big guy. First, we'd have to sort out our bandwidth/processing issues. We push up against the limits as it is now. If we have to increase server space and bandwidth to accommodate uploading/downloading of gigs of member-contributed content we might suffer in the forums operations. I like the idea, but there are some technical/financial hurdles to deal with. What say you, Mal?

Actually bandwidth was never a problem. We had 6TB available, monthly, and never went over 1500 GB IIRC in the past, and that was with some heavy hv20.info file down/uploading. The problem recently was processor usage, but that has been taken care of also.

I was thinking of eventually making the domain more 'universal' but keeping everything else similar. Pay per usage? yeah, could be looked into I guess.

Well then, I stand corrected. Maybe a separate pay-for-access or premium membership forum for downloadable content is a good idea.

All membership proceeds would go to the site.

Paid members could DL any donated media they wanted to use in their production.

Why would anybody upload their clips for other members to use? Because they would be able to avail themselves of the clip library in their productions as well.

And if you weren't a paid member but still wanted to DL a clip, you could do so for a nominal fee, part of which would go to the website and the other to the original donor.

    Examples:
Let's say I've just gotten a video project from the soccer ball company down the street. I need some good soccer cutaways but it's the dead of winter and the snow's 3 feet thick.

I DL a couple of different soccer clips from the library and presto, I don't have to wait for spring. Project nicely completed.

Or you need a closeup of the top of the Empire State Building that pulls out to the cityscape or an establishing shot of the Grand Canyon (all easy to do if you happen to live/visit there) and donated by members for free use with a paid membership.

CG, animated BG's and more could round out a nicely complimented library. Some folks have great fireworks footage, others beautiful flower gardens and macro shots, still others have nice DOF setups not everyone has. Hell, you might even inspire folks to shoot just for the library stock.

Mal, I'm selling myself on this....if you don't do it, I will.

    Just some thoughts.

I like the idea. For sure.
I know the software can handle paid subscriptions, so I don't see technical problems, other than maybe the security of the clips, but that can be solved also.
