Question Which kind of firewire connector on HV20/30?

I don't have the new camera yet.
Want to order a Firewire cable to feed camera data to the computer
and also an HDMI cable to play the camera into our HDTV.

Computer here has a six pin Firewire receptacle.
Is the HV20/30 socket the same six pin, or is it a four pin?

And about HDMI (I've never used any of these cables before),
are HDMI all terminated with the same plug---I just order any old HDMI cable?

Thank for helping me get it all going.

    Reid

The camera uses a 4-pin FireWire connector.

Someone else will have to answer the HDMI question, sorry.

The HV20/30's IEEE 1394 (firewire) has a 4-Pin connector. And all HDMI cables are the same (well, besides length, brand etc. of course).

In fact, HDMI cables come in several flavors. There are Type A, B, And C connectors and each of those divides into Male and female.

Thanks Fred, thanks kyleman! OK, so need to order a 4pin to 6pin firewire cable.

    ____________

But what about the HDMI? My TV's inlet is full sized HDMI female.
Which size termination does the camera take: full size "Male", or "Mini Male"?

    male to mini-male HDMI

(see the picture a couple of postings above)

Thanks to the first person who has an HV20/30 and the vital answer

    Default it be full size

Don't know about HV20, but the HV30 takes a full-size HDMI male cable. Quite irritating as I bought a really expensive mini-HDMI male to female connector only to find that Canon was genius enough to have a standard HDMI plug on the HV30. You probably don't even need to buy a cable now.

It has a small / 4 pin IEEE1394 hole too.

Now I have the camera, it arrived two days ago.
Today the cables arrived, this is what I have:

Neither of the cable-types fit to the camera.

Problem: Despite advice given right above,
I cannot find a full-sized HDMI cable socket on HV30. I am not known for good eyesight.

All that I can find on the camera in the way of funny sockets are:
=a mini USB under the LCD screen
=a mini socket (firewire?) on the other side labled "component out".

    Images:
upper plug is the Canon-supplied component-out cable

lower plug is the termination on the "four pin" end of the above-cited firewire cable; it won't fit the camera.

Please help. I want to capture footage into the computer.
The supplied USB to mini USB cable is no good for that, is it?

    Reid,

On the rear of the camera just to the right of the battery (above the AC power jack) is a narrow vertical flap covering the FireWire and HDMI ports.

    Thanks a million, Erik.
The flap was found instantly by feel as soon as I read your cue.

Ah, and there, on pg. 67 of the manual, is instruction.
I can hardly read print on paper lately due to some recent loss of vision
to which I have not yet adjusted.

Thanks for saving me from myself. Much obliged.
