That's a neat, free and cheap idea for a lens hood.

A friend and I both have the Sony VCL-HG0758 lens (his is on a bigger camera) and were on the phone discussing ways to make a lens hood for it (no front thread and 93mm isn't common). While we were talking I got a weird idea and took my lens and dropped it, end facing down, into an clean empty 44oz. convenience store soft drink cup. Bingo!
It fit with room left over to cut petals or whatever. A couple of coats of flat black paint and we're good to go. There's other cup types and other uses, too.

Along with a bunch of convenience store clerks after seeing me on the security cameras testing their cups by dropping my lens in them and leaving.
